Taking Jesus Seriously
1 Corinthians 4:1-5
May 20, 2018
THE BIG IDEA: To be a Christian means that we take Jesus seriously,
seeing ourselves in the proper way – as servants and stewards.
Being a
Christian means my life is submitted fully to the Lordship of Jesus.
2. Leave the Judging of Others and Yourself to the
Lord (4:3-5)

§
Our judgement is always premature.
Our judgement is always insignificant.
Our judgement is always based on partial knowledge.
The Lord’s judgement will be complete and see deep into the
heart (motives).
(Hebrews 4:12)
The Lord’s judgement will be the basis for rewards and praise.
(2 Corinthians 5:10)
1 Corinthians 4:1–5 (ESV)
4 This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and
stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover, it is required of
stewards that they be found faithful.
3 But with me it is a very
small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court.
In fact, I do not even judge myself.
4 For I am not aware of
anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted.
It is the
Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment
before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the
things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of
the heart.
Then each one will receive his commendation from
God.
1. See Yourself as God Sees You (4:1)
Lessons to Take With Me:
1. Taking Jesus seriously means my life will change radically from how I
have been living my life.
2. Taking Jesus seriously means that in all things I listen for and follow
direction of His voice.
3. Taking Jesus seriously means everything in my life belongs to Him and
not to me.
I am completely accountable to Jesus for what I do with my
life and all things He places into my life.
4. I am a lousy judge of others and even of myself.
I must trust the
Lord’s evaluation of my life to God.
5.
One day, God will show me what I’ve done that has eternal value and
He will reward me and all of His children for that which brings glory to
Him.
Judgement Day should be anticipated by Christians as a day of
great joy!

The result of our
