"Who Is Jesus?”
4. He is the Head of the Church
18
Colossians 1:15-20
September 22, 2019
THE BIG IDEA: Using either a creed (a confession of beliefs) or a
doctrinal hymn, Paul brings us to our knees before Christ and gives us words
to declare who Jesus is. The implications of the confession are
transformational for every part of my life!
Colossians 1
1 Colossians 1:15-20 (ESV)
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
16
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all
things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all
things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the
body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that
in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of
God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all
things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his
cross.

5. He is Preeminent

Creation

The Implications of Who Jesus Is
+ You, in all that makes you you, were created by and for
Jesus.
+ Jesus is the One who holds all things together. What
about your life? Could it be that the reason your
life seems to be flying apart is that you are living it
without Him?
+ Are we faithful in remembering that Jesus is the Head
of our church. Human leaders are scriptural, but
are to always be subservient to Jesus!
+ There is no room in a Christian life to ask Jesus to be
your Savior but not follow Him as your Lord. He is
preeminent in EVERYTHING!
+ We cannot repair and heal what Sin broke – in our lives
or in the rest of Creation. The fractured image of
God in us is healed by Jesus’ blood. The
completion of that healing will be experienced
when Jesus returns [Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians
3:18; 1 John 3:2]
