He draws us out of our sin, our bondage in Egypt, and draws us into His presence and a relationship with Him. Exodus 1:1-14 1 These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob, each with his household: 2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, 3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, 4 Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. 5 All the descendants of Jacob were seventy persons; Joseph was already in Egypt. 6 Then Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation. 7 But the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them. 8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. 10 Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” 11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. 13 So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel work as slaves 14 and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves. Foundational Truths for God’s People 1. God is working a Plan and the plan is good. § § God’s plan is always for His Glory and for our Joy. His plan is Redemption. 2. God’s Plan is built upon His Promises. Genesis 3:15 Genesis 12:1-3 Genesis 15:5-6 Genesis 15:12-16 3. God keeps His Promises 2 Corinthians 1:20 “For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” Romans 10:9 “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” 1 Corinthians 10:11 says, “Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.” Lessons for All of Us: 1. God is Faithful – He Keeps His Promises on His Own Timetable –You Can Trust Your Life to Him. 2. Hardship always accompanies walking with God. Hardships are constant opportunities to call on the God who is always there, even when we’re waiting on His promise or we’re living in Egypt. 3. God Calls Us Out of the Darkness of Our Bondage and Into the Light of His Presence – Redemption is His Plan 4. Moses Points Us to the True, Better, and Ultimate Deliverer – Jesus.
