The Lord Saved You – Now What? Exodus 15 May 17, 2020 THE BIG IDEA: After God delivered the Hebrew people from their bondage, He continued to be with them, teaching them daily about the life they were called to. In reading their story we can find important clues to the question we all ask, “Now what?” n The key to understanding how this story applies to your life is found in the New Testament in 1 Corinthians 10:1-6. 10 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. 5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. 2. We need to Watch Out for the Grumbling that Often Follows the Grace. [Exodus 15:24] n n n n Grumbling is sin [1 Corinthians 10:8-10] Grumbling reveals a false understanding of our salvation Grumbling robs us of enjoying God’s blessings Grumbling impugns the character of our Holy and Loving God 3. We Need to Know that Testing Often Follows Triumph [Exodus 15:22-26] 22 Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. 24 And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 And he cried to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the LORD made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, 26 saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.” n n Lessons Every Believer Needs to Know: 1. We need to Embrace the Beauty and Importance of Singing to the Lord. n We sing first to the Lord about the Lord n Then, we sing to one another [15:21; Colossians 3:16] n We sing with joy [Psalm 100:1-2] n Singing Praises to God in this life is preparation for the singing we will do in Heaven [Revelation 15:3] Don’t misunderstand, this is about our sanctification, not our justification. They/we were saved by God’s mercy and grace. There is no going back on that. Now, God sets about to shape us – to conform us to Christ’s image. [Romans 8:29] 4. We Need to Know That if We Follow the Lord Through the Wilderness, Sweetness Will Follow the Bitterness [Exodus 15:27] John 7:37 Revelation 22:1-2
