Who’s Right?

Critics have always said that Nabonidus was the last ruler of

Babylon according to ancient records and not this made up Belshazzar of the Bible. Whose right? The answer is given from Belshazzar himself in his offer to Daniel.

Dan 5:16  “…now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.

Daniel was offered the third position in the Kingdom because that was the only empty seat. Belshazzar was the second in command so to speak while his Father Nabonidus was the first ruler in Babylon.

Belshazzar and his father Nabonidus were “co-regents” meaning that they were ruling at the same time; that’s why Daniel could only be third in leadership. So while secular history records the reign of Nabonidus; bible history records the reign of his son Belshazzar.
