1. Leaders Should be Righteous

Proverbs 16:12–13 NASB95
12 It is an abomination for kings to commit wicked acts, For a throne is established on righteousness. 13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings, And he who speaks right is loved.
King Ahab committed many wicked acts such as killing his neighbor to get his vineyard leading the people of Israel into idol worship.
David’s seat of power was established on righteous obedience to God.
Proverbs 16:10 NASB95
10 A divine decision is in the lips of the king; His mouth should not err in judgment.
The kings of Israel were not gods, but they would speak on behalf of God at times. Because of the power that a ruler has, he/she needs to be careful about their decisions.
Proverbs 25:2 NASB95
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
Deuteronomy 29:29 NASB95
29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.
Proverbs 25:3 NASB95
3 As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, So the heart of kings is unsearchable.
Proverbs 25:4 NASB95
4 Take away the dross from the silver, And there comes out a vessel for the smith;
Proverbs 25:5 NASB95
5 Take away the wicked before the king, And his throne will be established in righteousness.
These 2 verses go together and illustrate how important it is to root out sin in a country. When a king does this, his kingdom will be characterized by righteousness.
Proverbs 14:28 NASB95
28 In a multitude of people is a king’s glory, But in the dearth of people is a prince’s ruin.
A great king rules over a great people, and a prosperous king rules over a prosperous people.
Jesus is The Righteous king of Israel and the world
Jeremiah 23:5–6 NASB95
5 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as king and act wisely And do justice and righteousness in the land. 6 “In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell securely; And this is His name by which He will be called, ‘The Lord our righteousness.’

Leaders Hold Great Power

Proverbs 16:14 NASB95
14 The fury of a king is like messengers of death, But a wise man will appease it.
Proverbs 16:15 NASB95
15 In the light of a king’s face is life, And his favor is like a cloud with the spring rain.
Proverbs 14:35 NASB95
35 The king’s favor is toward a servant who acts wisely, But his anger is toward him who acts shamefully.
Proverbs 17:11 NASB95
11 A rebellious man seeks only evil, So a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
If someone tries to rebel against the kings, this is what they should expect.
Proverbs 19:12 NASB95
12 The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is like dew on the grass.
David cared for Mephibosheth because of his promise to Jonathan. The dew is life sustaining for many of the plants.
Proverbs 20:2 NASB95
2 The terror of a king is like the growling of a lion; He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
Proverbs 20:8 NASB95
8 A king who sits on the throne of justice Disperses all evil with his eyes.
disperse=sift. The king separates the evil from the good.
Proverbs 20:26 NASB95
26 A wise king winnows the wicked, And drives the threshing wheel over them.
The Lord Jesus, the King of Kings will sort thorough all the people of the world.
Matthew 3:11–12 NASB95
11 “As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 “His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Proverbs 24:21–22 NASB95
21 My son, fear the Lord and the king; Do not associate with those who are given to change, 22 For their calamity will rise suddenly, And who knows the ruin that comes from both of them?
Given to change is a nice way of saying, overthrowing the king.

Leaders Should Speak Truth

Proverbs 20:28 NASB95
28 Loyalty and truth preserve the king, And he upholds his throne by righteousness.
Proverbs 17:7 NASB95
7 Excellent speech is not fitting for a fool, Much less are lying lips to a prince.

12 If a ruler pays attention to falsehood, All his ministers become wicked.
Proverbs 29:14 NASB95
14 If a king judges the poor with truth, His throne will be established forever.

Winning a King

Proverbs 22:11 NASB95
11 He who loves purity of heart And whose speech is gracious, the king is his friend.
Proverbs 23:1–3 NASB95
1 When you sit down to dine with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you, 2 And put a knife to your throat If you are a man of great appetite. 3 Do not desire his delicacies, For it is deceptive food.
Proverbs 25:6–7 NASB95
6 Do not claim honor in the presence of the king, And do not stand in the place of great men; 7 For it is better that it be said to you, “Come up here,” Than for you to be placed lower in the presence of the prince, Whom your eyes have seen.

Kings and Justice

Proverbs 28:15–16 NASB95
15 Like a roaring lion and a rushing bear Is a wicked ruler over a poor people. 16 A leader who is a great oppressor lacks understanding, But he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.
Rehoboam 1 kings 12
Proverbs 29:4 NASB95
4 The king gives stability to the land by justice, But a man who takes bribes overthrows it.
Because of the many injustices, our country is more unstable now than ever. There are 3000 baby killed each week.
