(Jeremiah 37:17))

“Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out [of prison]; and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD?

And Jeremiah said, There is for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into they hand of the king of Babylon” (Jeremiah 37:17).

We don't need another political uprising, we don't need another conqueror on the scene. What we need is a special word, that will burn within our hearts and give us direction from above. Chorus: We need a word from the Lord, a word from the Lord. Just one word from the Lord, will remove all the doubts copyright <a href="https://elyrics.net">ht
Zedekiah was a weak and worthless king of Judah. He was also the last king of Judah before the captivity and was taken into captivity. Like many government leaders, he did not know what the score was spiritually. He was out of touch with God and had not wisdom to rule. He had allowed the prophet Jeremiah to be put in prison, which showed his spiritual stupidity. But when troubles mounted because of the Babylonian invasion, Zedekiah took Jeremiah out of prison and asked him if here was a word from the Lord about these troubles.
FIRST—THE CONFIRMATION“There is!” Jeremiah knew that the Lord had plenty to say about Israel’s present problems and confirmed that there was indeed a word from the Lord about them. Where had Zedekiah been? The prophet Jeremiah had been declaring God’s Word about this situation his entire ministry which is why Zedekiah had put Jeremiah in prison. It was a stupid question and exposed Zedekiah’s spiritual ignorance.SECOND—THE CONDEMNATION“Thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.” King Zedekiah did not have a good future. He was doomed to captivity and that captivity would be very painful to him both physically (his eyes were put out) and emotionally (his sons were killed before him just before his eyes were put out). Those who despise and disrespect and disbelieve the Word of God will be on the wrong end of judgment. We today have a Word from the Lord about marriage (who to marry, how long to stay married), about morals (if we heeded the word their would not be AIDS and other devastating ills), about misconduct (criminals are to be punished and murderers put to death), and about money (what to do with your money, how to get it etc.) and all the Word will do is condemn us for we have disobeyed the word of God repeatedly about these matters.THIRD—THE COURAGE“Said he.” The prophet Jeremiah was a courageous soul for he gave Zedekiah the Word of the Lord even though the message would not be received well. Most ministers today would have put velvet on their tongues after being released from cruel incarceration by the king, but not Jeremiah. It always takes courage to proclaim the Word of God about any issue. And especially does it take courage to declare the Word of God when it is opposed to popular sentiment. The prophet Jeremiah had forecasted the Babylonian captivity for many years, but no one believed him. Even when Babylon was knocking at the gates of Jerusalem, the people still rejected Jeremiah’s message and in their rejection accused him of being in cahoots with Babylon.
