Holy Spirit’s Work in Salvation

Before returning to the Father, Jesus promised that He would send “another Comforter” using the Greek work allos for “other” which means “another of the same kind.” Jesus could have used the word heteros for “other,” meaning another of a different kind. But Jesus used the word allos, which means the Holy Spirit is another Helper just as Jesus is our Helper.
Preconversion:
Reprove & Convict (Prosecuting Attorney)
John 16:7-10 “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer;”
2. Restraint (Crossing Guard)
2 Thess. 2:7 “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.”
Conversion:
Regeneration (Interior Decorator, making a room new)
Titus 3:5 “he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,”
2. Indwelling (Apartment Manager)
1 Cor. 6:19 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,”
3. Sealing (Notary Republic)
Eph 4:30 “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
Post Conversion
1. Fullness
Eph 5:18 “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,”
2. Sanctification
2 Cor 3:18 “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
3. Illumination
1 Cor. 2:12 “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.”
