Luke 4:16–23 (NKJV)
16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.
21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
22 So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”
23 He said to them, “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your country.’ ”
Jesus ( God in the flesh) came to set the captive free, set at liberty those who are opressed.
These people did not understand the significance of these words because they did not understand the type of bondage and opression that Jesus had come to set them free.
They were free from physical bondage, that is they were free men
However, their souls, spirit and mind was bound by all kinds of bondage, they were opressed by all kind of things.
Jesus has come to set the oppressed free,
He is the great phycian that not only has come to heal your body, but has come to heal soul, your mind.
He has come to set you free from sin, and opression of the devil.
He has come to set you free from the snare of death.
The Lord Jesus is here to proclaim liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:15–18 (NKJV)
15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
The lord was there physically, but the Lord is here in the spirit.
The Spirit of Liberty is in this place.
Can you feel the spirit of Liberty
The Lord can set you free from your spiritual blindness into the glorious liberty of revelation of Jesus Christ.
He can open your eyes to the truth. The blindess of your spiritual eyes.
Let there be faith in this place, Faith is what moves the spirit of liberty, activates the spirit of liberty.
Don’t belittle the spirit of liberty, let him work in your mind right now, let him loose you from every weight that is holding you down, let him remove the veil that is in your sight, let remove your worries and your fears.
The woman with spiritual infirmity
Luke 13:10–17 (NKJV)
10 Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up.
12 But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.
13 And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, “There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.”
15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?
16 So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?
17 And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.
Sometimes phyisical ailment is a reflection of a spiritual bondage.
Here we see the characteristic of spiritual bondage.
Once your soul, spirit and mind is bound by a bondage.
That bondage will slowly begin to enroach itself upon your life and begin to bend your life to it’s will.
That is why when a person has a particular addiction, or a particular bondage that bondage will begin to affect every aspect of his life.
It always begins with a little, a little bit of alcohol, a little bit of gambling, a little bit of fear, a little bit of shame, a little bit of guilt and eventually it will ovewhelm you and affect all your life.
The biggest bondage the Spirit of Fear
2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
When one is spirit of fear, One loses power over the will. That is why a lot of people who struggle with fear, tend to be addicted with other things aswell, like drinking, smoking. They don’t have strong will, because they have lost power because of fear.
Fear then takes away your love, when you are bound with the spirit of Fear, you tend to also be full of bitterness, they will be a lot of people you tend to hate and dislike.
Fear also takes away the soundness of your mind, you tend to slowly loose your mind. You are paranoid, you are tormented by fear, you start to lose your mind.
Only the Lord can set you free
“and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up.”
You can not raise yourself up, you can not set yourself free. Only the Lord Jesus can set you free, only he can raise you up.
No physcian, no phyciastrist can restore the soundness of your mind, loose you from the spirit of bondage. It is like a prisoner seeking another prisoner to set them free.
Leviticus 26:13 NKJV
13 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves; I have broken the bands of your yoke and made you walk upright.
Only the Lord can and break the bands of your yoke, and make you walk upright
God’s peoplpe must not fear anything even death
Proverbs 28:1 NKJV
1 The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion.
death for us is not something to fear but rather something to be gained.
Philippians 1:21 NKJV
21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
We have nothing to fear but everything to embrace.
Are you bound by shame
2 Timothy 1:8 (NKJV)
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God,
Mark 8:38 NKJV
38 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
Are you ashamed of the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Are you ashamed to open you mouth to proclaim the Gospel of Liberty
Are you ashamed to glorify the Lord Jesus in your Body
There are those that are bound in the church, with shame. You have to be set free.
The Spirit of rest
15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?
16 So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?
The sabbath is rest.
On this day the Lord gave this woman rest from her oprression.
There are those here who don’t have rest, your sould does not have rest. You don’t even know what rest is.
You are bound with so many things that you are always restless.
You are thinking medication will give you rest, it won’t
Concluding scripture,
Matthew 11:28–30 NKJV
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
