What about You (Eleiphen) Anointing

Luke 7:36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat. 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
To begin with brothers and sisters, Christian Friends, Well Wishers, and Saints of God One of the most interesting things is that this text tells me that The bitterest truth is better than the sweetest lie.
Just be honest about who you are and the people you associate with because there is a portion of this broader context that addresses how people will categorize you when they don’t really know where to put you. Jesus said in Luke 7:24 when y’all went out to the wilderness what did you go out to see certainly not a person clothed in fine linen because that person would be in the king’s palace. Then Jesus said that John was the greatest prophet ever for after all John is the forerunner for the coming Messiah. Sometimes the bitterest truth is better than sweet lies. They wanted John to be orthodox, prim, prime, and proper like a priest but John was a voice crying out in the wilderness.
Just tell me the truth. Brothers and sister when people don’t know where to put you it brings about fear. They were concerned about John the Baptist lifestyle and because he didn’t eat or drink or socialize or associate with them. They said John had a demon in him. Then they said in other words “that Jesus ain’t all that either” because the Son of Man is eating and drinking and socializing with sinners therefore Jesus has got to be a sinner too. Because after all birds of a feather flock together. And Jesus wraps this section of scripture up in Luke 7:35 by saying “But wisdom is proved to be right by what it does.”
And that conversation that Jesus had sets the stage for the next set of events because that bitter truth caused one of the Pharisees to ask Jesus to come to dinner. I’d rather you tell me the truth than feed me deceptive lies.
Verse 36 says Jesus goes to the pharisee’s house and sat at the table. And here’s where the text gets more interesting. *Guest whose coming to dinner? The bible says in the NCV in verses 37 A sinful woman in the town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house. So she brought an alabaster jar of perfume
38 and stood behind Jesus at his feet, crying. She began to wash his feet with her tears, and she dried them with her hair, kissing them many times and rubbing them with the perfume.
Saints of God if we are honest we’ve had so many times that we’ve have been guilty of a whole lot of things. We’ve been guilty of this, and that and the third and so on.
And what’s good about this woman (who was probably named Mary) was that she was acknowledging her sins with her actions. Not just clever conversation, not intellectual jargon, that jilted and josted out discourses of empty rhetoric, or not a flashy display of a fashionista no no no,
*1. The woman brought a gift for atonement, which would signify a proper anointing for Jesus. What about your anointing ? In other words what have you brought before Jesus today? Because She brought an Alabaster Box filled with perfume. And listen, to Have a full Alabaster Box filled with perfume would have taken quite a bit of money from a commoner who was not wealthy. Because Mainly the rich and well to do folk could afford an alabaster box that was full of expensive perfume.
*2. In Old Testament scripture, when the people were told to go and anoint themselves it meant a washing and cleansing of your body and putting on fresh linen clothes afterwards. And here we find The woman preparing for the anointing to flow because she’s standing behind Jesus and she begins to cry and wash Jesus feet with her tears. What about your anointing what are you bringing to the table in this text? Let me add some specificity to the fact of her tears. Did you know that middle easterners would carry around tear bottles and every time they would cry they would catch the tears with the tear-bottle until the tear-bottle filled up. The “!!!sinful woman” must have done more unfavorable favors for men and than she could count !!! Probably more time than she wanted to admit. Her life was shameful and she regretted the outcome of her lifestyle. Question is What about your anointing?
And the message today is What to do in 22? In 2022 how do we change our negative narrative? Here’s the answer If you regret your lifestyle choices, make better choices, make righteous choices, make holy choices and quit hanging around the wrong people? Amen?
*3. Another part she played in the preparing for the anointing to flow was when The woman wiped Jesus’ feet with her hair. OHHH She must have had some long pretty black hair that was black and silky like raven feathers. And listen to this “A woman in today’s African American Society in 2022” could love you to death but chances are fellows she’s not going to wipe your feet with her hair, especially not after she has gone to the beauty shop. The woman in the text was preparing for the anointing to flow. You’ve got to position yourself for the flowing of the anointing.
*4. Then the woman did something unusual, yet phenomenal, she began to kiss Jesus’ feet over and over and over. Boy oh boy you’ve got to love somebody a whole lot to kiss their feet over and over and over again. That’s a lot of love and that’s a lot of repentance and that’s a lot of penitence.
In other words that’s saying I’m sorry Jesus a lot of times without opening your mouth. I’m so sorry for my many sins. I’m so sorry please forgive me Master. What about your anointing, what are you bringing to the table for Jesus?
*5. Then comes the Anointing!!!!. After all of the preparation here comes the expensive perfume. When she cracks open that Alabaster box and the odor was overwhelmingly good to the senses. The odor filled the house. And get this now, just a little bit would have been enough for anyone. But she pour the whole bottle on Jesus. In modern times in 2022 the top perfumes from the perfume shop is 1. Baccarat Rouge #540 Extrait for $800 a bottle!!!
2. The Night De Paris Motion $200 a bottle and then 3. Millionaire Premium for $100 a bottle
In other words she gave her best to Jesus. She gave her all to Jesus. The bible says seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.
Saints of God if we just do God’s business first if we just bless God first if we just trust God first everything else will be just fine.
And if you notice she didn’t just pour it on Jesus secretly and walk away no no no she stayed there rubbing Jesus’ feet. Brothers and sisters none of the precious anointing oil is wasted. In her heart she was saying None of this expensive perfume is going to be wasted all over the couch or on the floor. She took personal responsibility for her actions.
And Her tears, her humble attitude, and her expensive gift all spoke of a changed mind and a changed heart.
*Oh but Then comes the self righteous indignation from our Critical Host, look at verse 39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
Simon was embarrassed!!!! both for himself and for his guests. Can you imagine what the people in the house were saying? because People had been saying that Jesus was a great Prophet but here’s this prostitute all over Him and looks like to me Jesus is loving it. Simon is thinking it but not saying anything. Jesus says Simon I know what you’re thinking but consider this.
From the New Century Bible the word says in verse 40 Jesus said to the Pharisee, “Simon, I have something to say to you.”
Simon said, “Teacher, tell me.”
41 Jesus said, “Two people owed money to the same banker. One owed five hundred coins and the other owed fifty.
42 They had no money to pay what they owed, but the banker told both of them they did not have to pay him. Which person will love the banker more?”
43 Simon, the Pharisee, answered, “I think it would be the one who owed him the most money.”
Jesus said to Simon, “You are right.” Brothers and sisters think about that!!! Look how many things God has forgiven us for. The times you know you should have gone to jail jail. The officer smell the liquor on your breath and told you to go straight home. The car note forgiveness they should have taken the car ten times over but God made them make a deal for you and you kept your car. Your home need repair from the storm and the insurance is jipping everybody else but God made them replace your whole roof with a little deductible. You thought you had cancer but the doctor says the cancer is in remission gone.....undetectable.. You’ve had break after break after break and when others thought you were going down the Lord stepped in right on time.
Jesus said Simon which one will appreciate me more? 43 Simon, the Pharisee, answered, “I think it would be the one who owed him the most money.”
When you owe God a lot you’ll appreciate Him a lot. What ever you do and how ever you act reflects how you appreciate Jesus in your life because Jesus said to Simon, “You are right.”
* Then the moment of recognizing occured Look at verse
44 Then Jesus turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? When I came into your house, you gave me no water for my feet, but she washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair.
45 You gave me no kiss of greeting, but she has been kissing my feet since I came in. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she poured perfume on my feet.
47 I tell you that her many sins are forgiven, so she showed great love. But the person who is forgiven only a little will love only a little.”
Brothers and sisters Don’t let the devil fool you into thinking that making a public stance doesn’t matter. It matters to God! Also your private stance against sin matters to God. Because God sits up high and He looks down low, Jesus doesn’t miss anything. Let me prove it.
1. in verse 44 Jesus said Simon you didn’t give me any water to wash my feet but she washed my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
2.Simon you didn’t give me no kiss but this woman has been kissing my feet since I came in
3. Simon you didn’t anoint my head with oil and this woman poured a whole bottle of expensive perfume on my feet.
Jesus said Simon this woman has a lot of sins but all of them are forgiven.
I imagine Jesus saying anybody who went to those great links to be forgiven ought to be forgiven. The woman “!!never tried to hide her sins!!!”. She never denied her sins She never said it wasn’t me. Her actions and her tears showed a change of mind and change of heart.
And Jesus recognized her Repentance. And Jesus recognized her Regeneration and verse
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
And so as I leave you here today um um Yes
I’m so glad that although my sins be like scarlet and crimson like blood
Great God I’m so glad that Jesus took my black soul dipped them down in His red blood washed my sins whiter than snow.
I don’t know about you but I’m so glad that Jesus look beyond my faults and saw to my every need Oh Yes I am
Is there anybody in here that’s glad that Jesus Saw you for who you are and throwed His arms all around you and own you as His Child.
Jesus told the woman daughter your sins are forgive and your faith has saved you God in peace.
In other words nobody can’t talk about me no more because Jesus said I’m saved. Are there any Saved folk in here, yes
he saved my soul made me whole pick me up and turned me around put my feet on solid ground Hey Hey Hey Lord
Thank you Jesus !
Thank you Lord ! Thank Sir
Oh Lord
I should’ve been dead sleeping in my grave but Lord been good to me
have He been good to you
If He been good Let me hear you Say Yeah! 3x
