Disciplined In Reading Gods Word - 2 Timothy 3:14-17

2 Timothy 3:14–17 CSB
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you, and you know that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Introduction
Church, how fit would a person be if they worked out only one day a week? They wouldn’t be very fit. How fit is the believer of only opens up their bible on Sunday? You laugh but there are many people who have been in church for years and never learned to read Gods word. Part of this is the failure of the church to focus on discipleship. But also we have created a Sunday only culture which leaves people unfit to live a godly life.
We have multiple bibles in our home. Bible apps. Youtube. Right Now Media and we still lack the courage to read the Word of God.

All scripture is inspired by God and will develop you into the Image of Christ

All Scripture
Not some scripture, all scripture.
Paul is referring to the old testement. The Law, the Writings, and the Prophets
Inspired by God
1, 2 Timothy, Titus Excursus 5: Inspiration, Infallibility, Inerrancy, and Authority

The term “inspiration” relates to that influence of the Holy Spirit by which human beings become organs to communicate the truth of God in words to others.

God inspired writers to give you 66 books. 40 authors, 66 books.
God is powerful. When you hold this bible and read the scriptures, you are reading the very voice of God.
The power of Gods word
The grass withers and flowers fade but the Word of God remains forever
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
You have in your hand the very Words of God.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 “This is why we constantly thank God, because when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you welcomed it not as a human message, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also works effectively in you who believe.”
Don’t say God is silent when your Bible is closed.
Paul was telling timothy that the Word of God is profitable because its inspired by God.
And is profitable for:
Teaching
Rebuking
Correcting
Training in Righteousness

Read the Word

As Christians we need to have a daily dose of reading Gods word. There are so many plans out there that will guide you through the word of God. But Christians will know more about God when we just read his word.
Most people think that coming to church on Sunday Is enough. But church Sunday Is not enough. Imagine if you worked out only once a week. How fit would you be? The same applies to reading Gods word. The more you ready, the more knowledgeable you will become about God.
Reading Gods word will give you wisdom

15 and you know that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

The self help section is one of the largest sections in the library. Many people purchase books to make them a better you. Those books are helpful but one of the best books to grow is the Bible.
Paul said that the Word of God is Profitable
Paul was telling timothy that the Word of God is profitable because its inspired by God.
And is profitable for:
Teaching, Rebuking, Correcting, Training in Righteousness
Why? So that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Reading the Word will help you stay away from sin
psalm 119:9-11 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping your word. I have sought you with all my heart; don’t let me wander from your commands. I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.”
Jesus, when he was fasting for 40 days and 40 nights, he went into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He was able to overcome the enemy with the Word of God. He used scripture to stay away from sin and defeat the enemy.
How do we keep the word, when we don’t know the word.
Our scripture says that Gods word is profitable for rebuking and correcting.
Reading the Word will protect you from false doctrine
2 Timothy 3:13–15 CSB
Evil people and impostors will become worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you, and you know that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
Develop a reading plan - Bible in a year or three years

Study the Word

There is a difference from reading the scriptures to studying the scriptures.

10 As soon as it was night, the brothers and sisters sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. Upon arrival, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

The bereans examined the scriptures. They looked intently into the word for interpretation which would lead to proper application.
