How We Can Pray
For One Another
2. That they can help supply what they are missing in faith.
1 Thessalonians 3:9-13
September 27, 2020
The Big Idea:
One of the great obligations and privileges of the
Christian life is to pray for others – especially those who are going
through hard times.
Paul shows us both the heart and the mind of
Christians who will pray for others.
1 Thessalonians 3 (ESV)
9
For what thanksgiving can we return to God for you, for all the
joy that we feel for your sake before our God, 10 as we pray most
earnestly night and day that we may see you face to face and supply
what is lacking in your faith?
11
Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct
our way to you, 12 and may the Lord make you increase and abound in
love for one another and for all, as we do for you, 13 so that he may
establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father,
at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
3.
That their love will grow.
4. That they will be ready for Jesus’ return by being personally
holy.
Practical Take-Aways From Our Scripture
ü When I choose gratitude and joy as my mindset, I will care
enough to put time and energy into praying for other people.
ü One test of a Christ-like spirit is to ask, “Do I notice the
condition of other’s faith and desire to add to that faith?”
First, notice the heart of the one who will pray for others (vv.9-10):
à They are thankful
ü A beautiful model of praying for other people is:
o Their Faith
à They are joyful
o
Their Hope
o
Their Love
à They are relentless
Then, take note of the mind of Paul – the very specific things he prays
for:
1.
That Paul and his team can see them see them again.
"Satan trembles when he sees the weakest saint
upon their knees."
~ William Cowper
