The God Who is With You When Your World is Falling Apart Revelation1:1-8 January 31, 2021 7 Things We Learn from The Book of Revelation: • • • • • • • The world is not going to get better, but worse. God is in control. God is with His people and will be faithful to you, even when your world is falling apart. Kings and Kingdoms come and go, but God will always be on His throne. God will judge and ultimately vanquish evil and evil-doers, even as He rewards all who trust in His Son, Jesus. God is with His Church and the local congregations. He calls us to faithfulness in knowing Him, loving Him, worshipping Him, and serving Him in a world that seems to be falling apart. God wins! The Big Idea: To Christians whose faith was being tested by a world of chaotic events, including persecution for following Jesus, John calls them to hear God’s Word and give Jesus their full attention and trust. When you know the fullness of who God is and what He has done for you, you can endure anything that comes at you. Revelation1:1-8 (ESV) 1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood 6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. 8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” 5 ETERNAL TRUTHS TO CARRY WITH YOU THIS MORNING: 1. The Triune God – Father, Son, and Spirit, is working all 2. servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. 3. John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from 5. 4. 4 around you in this world, for His own glory and for the good of His people. Like the 1st century Christians and churches, we face the dual threat of persecution and compromise. Pray for those who face persecution. Ask the Lord daily for strength to resist compromise. God reveals Himself and His plans to His people. Look to Jesus and His Word to know what is truly important. The true Lord of the universe is our God. There are many would-be rivals for His throne, but none is worthy to sit upon it! Your life should bow in submission only to our Lord.
