Where am I going? o Psalm 139:17; 23-24 The Big Idea: Peter presents two powerful pieces of evidence to back up his call for Christians to be prepared to stand accountable when we meet Jesus upon His return – His personal testimony and the perfect Word of God. God’s Word is not the product of human imagination, but of the mind and heart of God Himself. HOW TO GET STARTED (OR RESTARTED) WITH YOUR BIBLE The Context of Peter’s Teaching About God’s Word 1. 2. 3. 4. In this life, we should pursue a Godly life, adding the qualities of Christ to our faith in Him This is in preparation for that Day when Jesus returns and stand accountable for their lives and deeds. Peter is concerned that false teachers will enter the church and convince people that Jesus won’t return and you can live as you please. Peter seeks to convince Christians of the reality of Christ’s return with with two pieces of evidence: eyewitness testimony and inspired and inerrant Scripture. 2 Peter 1:16-21 (ESV) 1 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the we were with him on the holy mountain. Go the Scriptures to learn how to be saved: 2 Timothy 3:15 • Be a Berean and examine those who teach God’s Word, to see if they speak Truth: Acts 17:11 • Ask the Lord to Give you a craving for His Word: Jeremiah 15:16 • Read in faith that the Lord wants to speak to you, correct, teach, guide, and grow you through Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 • Ask the Lord to help you delight in His Word: Psalm 1:1-3 I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. 8 I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me! 9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
