How Does The Holy Spirit
Work in Your Salvation?
John 1,3; Titus 3:5; Romans 8:9; Eph. 1
July 11, 2021
Review
o
“The Holy Spirit” – is the 3rd person of our Triune God. We have one
God who is three persons. [Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter
1:2]
o
“Spirit” – in Hebrew word is “ruach”, which means “wind” or “breath”
and often points to the divine energy and power that can only be of and
from God. In Greek the word is “pneuma”, which also means “wind,
breath, or air”; the invisible force of the Lord’s power at work.
The Big Idea:
My only true comfort in life and death is that I belong to
Jesus. Salvation comes through the work that Christ did on the Cross and is God’s
merciful and gracious gift through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit was sent to live in
every believer and assures us of our salvation and that we belong to the Father.
1.
Salvation is a Work of the Holy Spirit – No one is
saved apart from Him.
John 1:32–34 (ESV) 3 2 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit
descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 3 3 I
myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with
water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and
remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 3 4 And I
have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
Titus 3:5 (ESV) 5 he saved us , not because of works done by us
in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the
washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit ,
John 3:5 (ESV). Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you,
unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter
the kingdom of God.
2. Every Christian Receives the Holy Spirit at the Time
of Your Salvation – when you put your faith in
Christ.
Romans 8:9 (ESV) “You, however, are not in the flesh but in
the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone
who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to
him.”
3. The Father Seals Your Salvation Through the Son
With the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:11–14 (ESV) 1 1 In him we have obtained an
inheritance, having been predestined according to the
purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel
of his will, 1 2 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ
might be to the praise of his glory. 1 3 In him you also, when
you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and
believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit ,
14
who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire
possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
TIMELESS TRUTHS FOR TODAY:
ü No amount of religious training, activity, or even leadership
makes us right with God. Only repentance from sin and
faith in Christ alone for our salvation open the flow of the
Lord’s generous mercy.
ü Our One, Triune God works for the salvation of people. The
Father planned, the Son procured, and the Spirit applies.
ü A saved life is a transformed life. If we are not being
transformed by the Spirit’s working, there is strong reason
to examine our relationship with God.
ü The ultimate assurance of your salvation is the work and
presence of the Holy Spirit in your life. He, in the working
of Grace and the keeping of God’s promises in His Word, is
why you may stand in confidence before the Throne of God.
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the
throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and
find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 (ESV)
