Introductory Scripture & Prayer

Ecclesiastes 3:1–8 ESV
1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
As the Word of God just said, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:”
Death is never easy, but is always sure. There is a time to live, but there is also a time to die. It is something that we all must face. And if there is no escaping it, I think it best for us to embrace it. Thankfully, God’s Word gives us insight on how to do just that. It teaches us what is to be expected in eternity, and how to prepare for it. As I wrap up my time with you here today, I want to share just a few of those verses with you:
Psalm 27:1 ESV
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Philippians 4:8 ESV
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Colossians 3:1–2 ESV
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Isaiah 55:6 ESV
6 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;

Closing Prayer

Father, we gather here this evening to remember the life and mourn the death of Bruce. We ask that you would comfort each family member and friend. May they turn to your Word for comfort, be encouraged by what it says, and purpose in their heart to seek you while you may be found. Amen!
