THEME
Guarding your heart is something you must do.
No one else can do for you.
APPLICATION
Keep guarding your heart with diligence knowing everything you do flows from it.
FOCUS
When someone knows that they’ve been given something that is extremely valuable & supremely significant, it’s imperative that they recognize its worth & maintain their awareness of its location & condition.
Another way to say this is be sure to diligently protect whatever you have that’s undeniably diligently worth protecting.
If ever this was true, it’s true about the topic of today’s message.
The human heart is a marvel of creation’s Creator.
Remove it from its owners body & its owner will cease to exist.
Life will no longer flow throughout that body because what kept that body going is gone.
Ultimately everything a person does can be traced back to a beating heart.
And that’s the point of Proverbs 4:23.
Guarding your physical heart is really important.
Guarding the heart of your soul & spirit is even more so.
When we guard our heart, we …
1. validate its value.
It’s the source of everything pertaining to life & it’s the means by which we love God.
Proverbs 4:23 (be sure to see it in the context of vs20-27) / Luke 10:27 / Ezekiel 11:19 & 36:26
2. prevent needless tragedy, agony, damage & regret.
An unguarded heart is subject to all the world’s darkness & all the devil’s deceit.
Proverbs 4:23 / Matthew 6:21 / 2 Corinthians 4:1-2 & 13-16 / Hebrews 12:4-6 (especially v5)
Making It Real
1] Is it clear to you that the condition of your heart should always be an A-1 priority?
2] How will you prevent the tragedy, agony, damage & regret of an unguarded heart?
