What does the LORD require in the first commandment?

That for the sake of my very salvation I avoid and flee all idolatry, witchcraft, superstition, and prayer to saints or to other creatures.

Further, that I rightly come to know the only true God, trust in him alone, submit to him with all humility and patience, expect all good from him only, and love, fear, and honor him with all my heart.

In short, that I forsake all creatures rather than do the least thing against his will.

What is idolatry?

Idolatry is having or inventing something in which to put our trust instead of, or in addition to, the only true God who has revealed himself in his Word.

The coming of Jesus has changed everything.

We cannot speak about God any longer unless we speak of Him as the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

To worship any besides Jesus or to worship God except through Jesus is to commit idolatry.

Makikilala lang natin ang tunay na Diyos kung kikilalanin natin si Jesus.

At mas makikilala natin siya kung bibigyang pansin natin ang Salita niya, ang Bibliya.

At habang mas nakikilala natin siya, we love him.

And if we love Jesus, we also love God.

And if we love God we want to honor and worship him.

We do that by honoring and worshipping Jesus.

At kung nagtitiwala tayo kay Jesus, nagtitiwala din tayo sa Ama.

If we follow Jesus as his disciples, we submit and obey God.

Hangga’t lumalalim ang relasyon natin kay Jesus, mas nagiging mainit ang intimacy natin with God.
