What is your testimony

1 John 1–4
1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—2 that life was revealed, and we have seen it and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us—3 what we have seen and heard we also declare to you, so that you may also have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
To Bear Witness Verb Sense
To Act › To Utter › To Say (Express) › To Declare (Authority) › To Affirm › To Bear Witness
to solemnly assert something, offering firsthand authentication of the fact; often concerning grave or important matters.
witness and testimony go hand in hand
just as as in court truthfulness and accuracy are vital
your testimony could be the difference between life and death
Testimony must align with the word
2 Thessalonians 1:10
10 on that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed.
Isaiah 8:18–20
18 Here I am with the children the Lord has given me to be signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of Armies who dwells on Mount Zion. 19 When they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the spiritists who chirp and mutter,” shouldn’t a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living? 20 Go to God’s instruction and testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, there will be no dawn for them.
people will seek answers, and many will go to fortune tellers, palm readers and other spiritualists.

Isaiah questioned the rationality of going to the dead to find out the future instead of inquiring of the living God. The place to look was in the Law and … the testimony (cf. Isa. 8:16), which contained everything the nation needed to know about her future. A person’s failure to heed God’s Word means he has no spiritual light

God has given us everything we need in His word
2. you must believe it
be truthful do not embellish-God wants your honest testimony
BEFORE:
1. Before you met Christ, what were some of your needs, what was lacking, or what was missing in your life?
2. What solutions for your life did you try that didn’t work?
HOW:
1. What were the circumstances that caused you to consider Christ?
2. Tell how you trusted Christ, and briefly include the gospel.
AFTER:
1. Give an example of how Christ met your needs or how He is now contributing to your life.
2. End with a sentence to the effect that you know that you have eternal life through Christ.”
3. it must include the gospel
Read testimony
just because it worked for you will not mean much if something else works for them
our testimony MUST point to eternity and salvation
1 John 1:1–4
1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—2 that life was revealed, and we have seen it and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us—3 what we have seen and heard we also declare to you, so that you may also have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
1 John 5:10
10 The one who believes in the Son of God has this testimony within himself. The one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony God has given about his Son.
John 14:6 “6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
