A Song Of Asaph

Asaph was Davids chief musician
he wrote some of the psalms
he was also a prophet as we will see today
remember David is expanding the kingdom on all sides
what Asaph wrote here, at this time, was not happening
David’s army was not losing any battles
the Kingdom was secure, no worries on any of the borders
this Psalm is a prophecy concerning the future
some believe that it has already happened
I do not think so
I believe this is Israels next war
this is not the war of Ezekiel 38 which is also a war in Israels future
Lets read psalm 83
Pray

The Threat

the threat is going to come from all around
all of the borders will be threatened
as we read through this Psalm remember what is being said by the world against Israel
They want all of Israel to be annihilated
Israel to be wiped off the map
Psalm 83:1–3 LEB
O God, do not rest silently. Do not keep silent or be still, O God. For look, your enemies roar, and those who hate you have lifted their head. They devise cunning schemes against your people, and consult together against your protected ones.
all of Israels enemies are consulting together to do harm
we will see in a minute who these people are
what else are they plotting
Psalm 83:4–5 LEB
They say, “Come, let us annihilate them from being a nation, so that the name of Israel will be remembered no more.” For they have consulted together with a unified purpose. They have made a covenant against you:

Who Are They

Psalm 83:6–8 LEB
the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the inhabitants of Tyre. Assyria also has joined with them. They provide help to the children of Lot. Selah
Edom- Esau, Palestinian
Ishmaelites - Saudi Arabia
Moab- Central Jordan
Hagarites- Egypt
Gebal- Hezbollah
Ammon- North Jordan
Amalek- Muslim Brotherhood
Philistines - Hamas
Tyre - Hezbollah
Assyria - Isis- Iraq and Syria
This is what it looks like today
All of the sworn enemies of Israel
They are all occupying the land God Gave to Abraham
The Lexham English Bible (Chapter 15)
Genesis 15 18 On that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram saying, “To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river
The amount of land that God promised Abraham is more than twice the size it is now
King David had captured most if not all of this land
All of these peoples want to wipe all of the Jews off the map

The Petition

Asaph has a plea for God
Psalm 83:1 LEB
O God, do not rest silently. Do not keep silent or be still, O God.
We need you to pay attention to what they are doing
we need your help
He then tells what the problem is
now he has some suggestions for God
do to them what you did in the past
Psalm 83:9–10 LEB
Do to them as you did with Midian, as with Sisera, as with Jabin at the wadi of Kishon. They were destroyed at En-dor; they became dung for the ground.
Sisera was a commander for the army of Jabin
fought against Debora and Barak
Sisera was killed when a tent peg was pounded into his head
Now Asaph makes another suggestion
Remember this is a song to be sung
this is a way of Israel to remember who God is and what he has done
Today in Israel all of these enemies all around are wanting to completely destroy them
so lets pull this song out of the Hymn book and sing it
Psalm 83:11–12 LEB
Make their leaders like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their chiefs like Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, “Let us take as our possession the pastures of God.”
These are the ones that Gideon destroyed with his 300
both of these examples are what God does to the enemy
with our little resources
when things look bad …Sing the remembrance songs
when we bring these remembrance suggestions to God it’s more for our sake than for God’s
Ok the Israelites today are looking at the 170,000 rockets and missiles pointed at them right now
Hezbollah has 100,000 themselves
I wonder if the Israelite people are praying these next verses
Psalm 83:13–18 LEB
O my God, make them like the tumbleweed, like the chaff before wind. As fire burns a forest, and as a flame sets afire mountains, so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O Yahweh. Let them be ashamed and terrified forever, and let them be humiliated and perish that they may know that you, whose name is Yahweh, you alone, are the Most High over the whole earth.
We ourselves are not surrounded by the enemies rockets
but we are surrounded by the enemy
Ephesians 6:16 LEB
in everything taking up the shield of faith, with which you are able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one,
Do we pray in such a manner
do we like the Psalmist suggest to God according to what God has done in the past?

What Is The Outcome?

Who will win this war?
this Psalm does not tell us directly
Israel Wins
how do I know this?
God promised Abraham that he would have descendants forever
Hitler tried to kill all of the Jews
in Amos it says that god will put you into the land never to be uprooted again
Amos 9:15 LEB
And I will plant them on their land and they will not be uprooted again from their land that I have given to them,” says Yahweh your God.
The third temple in the land still needs to be built
the Antichrist at the 3.5 year period of Daniels 70th week, will occupy this temple
there is a lot we don’t know
but there is a lot we do
take these words of comfort
Deuteronomy 31:8 LEB
Yahweh is the one going before you; he will be with you, and he will not leave you alone, and he will not forsake you; you shall not be afraid, and you shall not be discouraged.”
1 Peter 5:7 LEB
casting all your cares on him, because he cares for you.
Hebrews 4:16 LEB
Therefore let us approach with confidence to the throne of grace, in order that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 13:6 LEB
So then, we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?”
Joshua 1:9 LEB
Did I not command you? Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.”
God has made us promises that He fully intents to keep
pray these promises back to God
Philippians 4:6–7 LEB
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
there are rough times coming pestilences, famines, wars, death
but if you are a child of God we have nothing to fret about
