Why does scripture record such ignoble details? Admonition (warning)

“Worthless”

Deut 13:13 draw people away to worship false gods

Zec 11:17- worthless shepherd abandons the flock

Judges 9:4 treacherous for the right price

2Sam 20:1 incite rebellion, abandon the king

1Kings 21:10,13 bear false witness to ruin others

Matt 25:30 hides his talent

How they became worthless

Je 2:5 “Thus says the Lord: “What wrong did your fathers find in me that they went far from me, and went after worthlessness, and became worthless?”

all in danger of worthlessness

Ro 3:11-18 “no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.””

Acts 17:30-31 “The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.””

Repentance and Redemption

God is faithful to strip away worthless things

Jn 15:2 “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”

Created…for good works

Eph 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
