5 Attributes of God

power in worship
Exodus 34:5–9 (ESV)
The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and worshiped. And he said, “If now I have found favor in your sight, O Lord, please let the Lord go in the midst of us, for it is a stiff-necked people, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”
we all love to let people know who we are. we post on social media about where we are. . what we do. . where we travel. we put it all on the web. It’s a description of who we are .
resumes and cover letters describe you on paper, however, it doesn’t describe you in full detail. It serves as a summary statement highlighting key components of your professional career.
credit reports do the same to determine credit worthiness.
medical reports used by insurance underwriters to gauge terms for life insurance and other procedure.
They give highlights of an individual, Representing a full life’s body of work.
God, in our text submits to Moses and for our hearing what many scholars would say is God’s resume. . this is His tiktoc reel. . His facebook story.
He does so by choosing some specific attributes to summarize His whole body of work in the lives of his people.
He only gives us 5-7, he could have given us more. . less. He could have chosen some different ones. . . but He didn’t. He gives us what He wanted Moses to be reminded of as they moved closer to the place God was taking them.
Merciful-Gracious- Slow to anger-Stedfast love-Faithfulness

Exodus: Evangelical Exegetical Commentary (Commentary)
Even though glimpses of the moral, ethical character of Yahweh have been demonstrated in his words and deeds already (cf. 33:12–16), this is the most succinct statement of who Yahweh is in the Pentateuch.
There is a bit of tension in our text; Moses wanted to see God. He desperately wanted to see God. . over and over again Moses had asked God to “show me your Glory. I want to see you !”
Have you ever been there? Ever wanted to see someone you enjoyed, so badly?
Erika, my wife, and I have since reconciled since she denied me and opportunity to see Prince in Concert. I love some Prince. . i grew up listening to prince. . i wanted to play guitar because of Prince .
like my desire to see Prince. . . on a much greater level. . MOses wanted to see God.
God tells Moses you can see me live. . so i will show you my backside. . you can see the exhaust of the dust and smoke when i pass through this clift.
God here gives Moses a sermon of His Faithfulness, rather the sight of His Face.
Moses, like us, had to walk by faith and not by sight.
and so. . . .

This is one of the most important verses in the entire Bible. We know it’s important because it is quoted or referred to dozens of times, especially in the Old Testament. King David prayed, “But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness
