Blessing of Forgiveness

Transgression Forgiven

The Greek word for transgression is pesha. It means rebellion. Sin is rooted in rebellion against God. The blessed man has it forgiven. The word forgiven here means “lifted off”. When we confess our rebellion against the Lord for what it is He lifts off the guilt associated with the rebellion.
Psalm 51:4 NASB95
Against You, You only, I have sinned And done what is evil in Your sight, So that You are justified when You speak And blameless when You judge.

Sin Covered

The Greek word used for sin is chatta. It means “falling short”. God has a standard of perfection to the law for all people when we sin we fall short of that standard. This means that we must face judgement by the law. When we confess that falling short, God covers that sin.

The second word that describes what God does with our sin is covered. It is a strong religious term taken from the imagery of the Day of Atonement. On the Day of Atonement the high priest of Israel took blood from an animal that had been sacrificed in the courtyard of the temple and carried it into the Most Holy Place, where it was sprinkled on the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant. The mercy seat was the lid or “covering” of the ark, and the blood was sprinkled there because it thereby came between the presence of the holy God, symbolized as dwelling in the space between the wings of the cherubim above the ark, and the broken law of God that was contained in the ark itself. It thus covered the broken law, shielding the sinner from God’s judgment.

No imputation of Iniquity

The Greek word for iniquity is hawon. It means corrupt, twisted or crooked. It is taking Gods standard and corrupting it. When we are disobedient to the commands of God we twist His ways and it is sin. David says that God does not impute that against us. That is He does not hold it against us when we confess.

Danger of Unconfessed Sin

Wasting Away

David said when he remained silent about his sin that his body wasted away through groanings all day long. This is something that most people don’t realize about sin. It takes a physical toll on the body and it doesn’t go away. It takes its toll all day long. It can make a person physically sick. Stress, worry, not eating right, not sleeping, depression, all these are symptoms of unconfessed sin that take there toll on the body

Heavy hand of the Lord

This is known as conviction. As a believer if you are living in sin the conviction will weigh heavy on your soul. It will rob you of peace and joy. It also robs you of fellowship with the Lord. The Lord gives us conviction to repent and be restored. When we fail to repent then this conviction can drive us away from the Lord.

Vitality Drained

A believer that has not spent time with the Lord because if sin begins to wear out like the heat wears us out in the summer. It is draining and the only thing that can restore us is water. We need to drink from the living water when living in sin.

Process of Confession

Acknowledgment of Sin

The first step in confession is recognizing sin in your life. If you do not recognize it, then you cannot confess and repent of it. If you deny it you will continue to be mastered by it.

Confession of Sin

Once you recognize it as sin then you can apologize to God for it and turn away from it.

Forgiveness of Sin

Once you confess and turn away from it the Lord will forgive you of it.
1 John 1:9 NASB95
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Deliverance from Sin

Prayer v6

David encourages believers to pray while they have time with the Lord. Spending time with the Lord builds intimacy with Him. When we have this intimacy, sin becomes less desirable.

Preservation v7

The Lord preserves us for His purposes and shields us from our enemies

Deliverance v7

The Lord delivers us from temptation and sin when we pray. as a mater of fact we see this in the Lord’s prayer. Matthew 6:13
Matthew 6:13 NASB95
‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’

Guidance of the Lord

Instruction V8

The Lord is not one who leaves us to figure life out on our own. He has given us His Word and His Spirit to guide us in life. When we spend time with Him we become more sensitive to His speaking and are counseled in His ways

Trust in the Lord V10

We must learn to trust in the Lord. This comes from hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17
Romans 10:17 NASB95
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Rejoice in the Lord

This will always lead to worship!
