A. Supplication Defined

First we pray the prayer of supplication for ourselves concerning both natural and spiritual needs.
Philippians 4:6 ESV
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
2. 2nd we pray the prayer of supplication for God’s people
Ephesians 6:18 ESV
18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
3. Third we are to pray the prayer of supplication for all men and for those who are in authority. That would include unbelievers as well.
1 Timothy 2:1,2
1 Timothy 2:2 ESV
2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

B. What can supplication be made for?

1. For laborers to be sent into God’s harvest.
Matthew 9:37,38
Matthew 9:38 ESV
38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
The word pray in verse 38 involves the idea of the an urgent request presented with fervency and desire.
2. It can be made for God’s Spirit to be poured out upon the earth.
Zechariah 10:1 (ESV)
1 Ask rain from the Lord in the season of the spring rain, from the Lord who makes the storm clouds, and he will give them showers of rain, to everyone the vegetation in the field.
Ask in verse means to desire, to ask earnestly, and to require.
