Command

What is a command?
According to Bakers dictionary it is Hebrew word “miswa” Greek word “entole” and it refers to orders or adjurations given by authorities
Commandments are given for good (Deu10:13) for protection (Deu7:9) and tonight we will look at the word, the commands of the word are for blessings, warnings and a various other reasons, so get ready get your fingers ready and let’s get into the word together on why to study the bible.

Study the bible for it brings blessings

Let’s look at Rev1:3 “3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.”
What are you if you Read the word?
Why read the word?
Blessings more precious than gold, sweeter than honey (Ps19:9-11)
Ps19:9-11 “9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether. 10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.”
What is the result for the one who keeps the word?
Blessings as it gives us wisdom, like a man building house on a rock (ref. Mt7:24)
Blessings as it does more, check out Ps19:7 “7 The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”
What blessings do you see in Ps19:7?
Now turn to Jn14:23 “23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.”
What is the blessing you find here?
When we apply God’s word, we are prosperous (ref: Jos1:8)
But wait, there is more that we should touch on here, turn to Ps1:1-3 “1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.”
What are we to do?
What are we not to do?
What are the promises and the blessings?
So, we know we are commanded, we are blessed by our following, keeping the command, but there are some warnings too as noticed in Ps1:1-3 as we just read, but what about rejection?

Rejection

Have you ever been rejected or did you ever reject someone? Did it hurt? Did rejection have consequences to it.
Rejecting the bible, the Word of God, leads to the wrath of God; consider
2Chr36:16 “16 but they continually mocked the messengers of God, despised His words and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, until there was no remedy.”
Turn to Hosea, we studied that on Sunday bible class not too long ago.
Hosea 4:6 NASB95
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
Why are the people destroyed?
If you reject you will not know the power of God, look at Mt22:29
Matthew 22:29 NASB95
29 But Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God.
Rejecting will take away your share in the tree of life Rev22:19 “19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.”
They will come to rest in the company of the dead
Proverbs 21:16 NASB95
16 A man who wanders from the way of understanding Will rest in the assembly of the dead.
Rejecting will have the wrath of God remain on them
John 3:36 NASB95
36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
and they will be condemned Jn12:48 “48 “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.”
Scripture marathon is upon us on other reasons to study the bible
Have people look up the following
Deu8:3 “3 “He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.” - It is soul food!
Ps119:103 “103 How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” - sweeter than honey
1Pt2:2-3 “2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, 3 if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.” - it leads to growth in respect to salvation
Jer15:16 “16 Your words were found and I ate them, And Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.” - by eating the words become joy and delight!
Rom1:16 “16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” - it is the power of God for salvation
It is also assured salvation to those who continue to believe 1Jn5:13
1 John 5:13 NASB95
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Let’s keep going
Heb4:12 “12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” - - - living, active, sharp, piercing, able to judge thought and intentions
1pt1:23 “23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.” - - - - causes us to be born again by life giving, imperishable seed
now some rapid fire
It is water Eph5:26 “26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,”
It is a lamp - Ps119:105 “105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
It is a sword (Heb4:12) and a hammer Jer23:29 “29 “Is not My word like fire?” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock?”
It is the source of faith Rom10:17 “17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”
Heb11:3 “3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.”
Heb11:6 “6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”
For He is the author and perfecter of our faith Heb12:2 “2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
It is eternal life giving Jn6:68
John 6:68 NASB95
68 Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.
Whew, made it! Can you see more on why we should study the bible? It is God’s word to bring salvation through faith, to reassure salvation by faith. It is life giving, life preserving
ps119:92-93 “92 If Your law had not been my delight, Then I would have perished in my affliction. 93 I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have revived me.”
It brings reconciliation so not condemned, brings life not death and now it brings us to the close of our study tonight.
