Luke 8:26–35 (NIV84)
26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee.
27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!”
29 For Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him.
31 And they begged him repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into them, and he gave them permission.
33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.
34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside,
35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
1. Jesus is Lord of all
1. Jesus is Lord of all
The demon possessed man saw Jesus and fell at Jesus’ feet
Every knee will bow
The demons can’t stand in the presence of the All Mighty
The enemy will bend the knee
Every sickness, disease, ailment, must bend the knee before Jesus
Jesus is still Lord
Jesus is still able to deliver His people
Jesus is still able to heal the sick
Jesus is still able to protect His own
Every knee will bow
Every tongue will confess
Jesus is Lord
2. Sin costs more than you want to pay
2. Sin costs more than you want to pay
Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.
Uncovered and without a place to live
The enemy wants to kill, still, and destroy
You will uncover you so that he can have his way with you
He will drive you away from family so that you will be without support
The enemy will drive you to solitary places where you won’t find support
The enemy wants you alone
A life without Jesus is costly

Beware of the pronoun spirit
People are being defined by a spirit
What is your gender? (name)
Jesus questioned the demon, it said—call me Legion (they, them)
God made us male and female (He/Her; Him/She)
You are not a them or a they
You are the temple of the Holy Spirit—not a hotel for demons
4. From nothing to something
4. From nothing to something
1 Pet 2:10 “Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
Jesus is in the business of making something out of nothing
You were once nothing, now you are something
Once you were not even a person
Now, you are a child of God
Once you were without mercy
Now, you have and are under His mercy
5. A life without a covering is costly
5. A life without a covering is costly
Without a covering is like living a life out of your mind
When sin entered the world, the man was able to see that he was naked. God made coverings for them
This demon possessed man was without a covering
No clothing
No place to live
He was driven by the demon to solitary places
Get under cover
The man was sitting at the feet of Jesus — Dressed
The man was sitting at the feet of Jesus — In His Right Mind
No more solitary places
Fellowship is key
Covering is a must
