Galatians 5:13–21 ESV
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
How can we work through all the ugliness that’s involved with life in the local church?
We’re constantly tempted, however, to think we can muster the necessary moral resources we need to love others well. But the fact is, greater moral resolve won’t get us there. Nor will our redoubled effort at sincerity and good intentions.
How can I live in step with the Sprit of God?

I must walk His way.

Galatians 5:16 (ESV)
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit...

My steps must be in step with the Spirit of God.

What does it mean?
I must go where He leads.
I must listen to His voice.
I must discern His will.
I must follow His guidance.
“Being lead by the Spirit means to have orientation of your life determined by the Spirit.”
It means that the Spirit of God has become the controlling influence in your life.

The Spirit of God is not only the source of the Christian life, He is the ultimate resource for the Christian life.

Overcoming the flesh is not a function of will power but the power of the Sprit of the Living God.
We need that resource because we face an incredible spiritual struggle.
Galatians 5:17 ESV
17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
Warning

Expect conflict.

Believers face conflict externally in the world and internally within our own will.

Experience grace.

Exercise caution.

Galatians 5:19–21 ESV
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

When the chief orientation of your life is sin you have never been saved.

Galatians 5:21 (ESV)
21 ... I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
The grace of God given to you in the Spirit of God is your ultimate resource to Walk His Way!
When I live life my way I
