INTRODUCTION: Josh, do you trust me?
You can trust that God will win every battle. (14:1-4)
You can trust that God will win every battle. (14:1-4)
1 Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “Tell the people of Israel to turn back and encamp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon; you shall encamp facing it, by the sea. 3 For Pharaoh will say of the people of Israel, ‘They are wandering in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.’ 4 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.
Turn back and encamp - so they were going to purposely change direction. Make them look confused (lost haha story).
Pi hahiroth and Baal zephron not sure exactly where. - Migdol means elevated place. So wherever it was think they went down the mountain to the sea shore.
They are still in Eygpt, Pharoah had spies. He hears they are lost and trapped between the mountains and the sea.
Wilderness has shut them in - they are trapped.
I will harden Pharoah’s heart - one for old time sake ahah
I will get glory of over Pharoah - complete destruction (like when I went after big brother)
Eygptians shall know that I am the Lord - God was still concerned about them.
You can trust Satan will do all he can to stop you. (14:5-9)
You can trust Satan will do all he can to stop you. (14:5-9)
You can trust that God will fight for you. (14:10-14)
You can trust that God will fight for you. (14:10-14)
5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, the mind of Pharaoh and his servants was changed toward the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?”
had fled - all they ever asked for was to go out for three days. Now they are running like a toddler with something in his mouth.
and his servents - everyone now felt this way.
6 So he made ready his chariot and took his army with him, 7 and took six hundred chosen chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them.
chariots were like the tanks of that day.
They were big enoug to hold 2-3 people. Imagine trying to fight one by yourself.
8 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the people of Israel while the people of Israel were going out defiantly.
defiantly - they were leaving a little bit cocky.
9 The Egyptians pursued them, all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and his horsemen and his army, and overtook them encamped at the sea, by Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.
They were strategically in the worst spot.
10 When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord.
lifted up their eyes - noramly that is a sign of help in the Bible, but here Eygpt was coming down the mountain.
feared greatly - imagine what they what was going to happen to them.
Isreal cried out to the Lord - which is good.
11 They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt?
They were histerical at this point.
12 Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
Leave us alone - They were content in their slavery. We get that way to, don’t want to believe because we would know what to give up.
13 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.
Fear not
stand firm - (something funny here, standign firm when scarred?)
see the salvation - you can watch, you can’t do anything
which he will work - God’s working, nto your.
you shall never see again - if they did nto have this moment, then they would always second guess.
14 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
fight and silent - imperfect tense.
We will still be praising the Lord, but God
