TEXT: Matthew 7:15-20
TOPIC: The Facts about False Prophets
Bobby Earls, First Baptist Icard, NC
February 8, 1998, Sunday Night
I. THE FACT OF FALSE PROPHETS, Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
Over 1600 major religious movements of 2000 or more members in America
The fastest growing religious group in America is Islam.
By the year 2020 the 20 largest cities in America will be largely Islam.
II.
THE FEATURES OF FALSE PROPHETS, Matthew 7:16 “You will recognize them by their fruits.
Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?”
Four Simple Signs of a Cult:
1. Addition - Every false cult always adds to the Bible
2. Subtraction - Every false cult subtracts from the total deity of Jesus Christ,
2 Corinthians 11:4 “For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.”
3. Multiplication - Every cult always multiply additional ways to salvation.
(Aldoph Hitler has been baptized by proxy by the Mormon church and ordained a High Priest in the Mormon church)
4. Divide - Every cult always claims to be the one true church in the world.
(Ever noticed how Mormons and Jehovah witness don’t go visiting together?)
III.
THE FATE OF FALSE PROPHETS, Matthew 7:19 “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
They will not last.
They are doomed to an eternity without Christ.
Galatians 1:8-9 “8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.
9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.”
