I want to discuss a few words of Scripture with you in regards to our work with world vision. I want you to truly understand as I've said to you before eternity, eternity all that matters is eternity!
What I want is for you to experience a rich inheritance when you come into the kingdom of God. In leading you to what will be a rich inheritance I want you to realize a few major points.
Let us look first at
John 1:12–13 ESV
12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
You have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and therefore you have become by divine command children of God.
I want you to look at that again and realize that you are children of God!
Let's look at another Scripture that says the same thing
Romans 8:16 ESV
16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Now, if indeed we are children of God here's what the Scripture bids us to do
Ephesians 5:1 ESV
1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
How are we to be imitators of God? What did God do that we should imitate him?
John 3:16 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
First of all, let us realize, God loved! God loved because
1 John 4:8–9 ESV
8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
Question:God sent his son into the world that we might what?
Therefore God so love that he gave so that we might live! God loved and gave so that we might live
If we are to be imitators of Christ then we are to give so that others might live.
We learned from Pastor Jim last week, love is an action. What does the Scripture continues to tell us about love?
John 13:35 ESV
35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Now we have before us an opportunity to show love and give, just like our father, so that others might live.
In doing this we shall be imitators of God revealed in the fact that we are his children.
Now I want to pose a serious question to you. The Scripture says
Ephesians 2:10 ESV
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Notice the phrase which God prepared beforehand. Now if God prepared work for you to do before you were born, how can you find out what the work is to do?
To answer that question I want you to look at this Scripture:
Psalm 37:23 ESV
23 The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way;
Perhaps you have heard it this way, the steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord. This means God leads you in the way that you are to go and that he put the question to leave you that here today.
As such it is this, could God have ordered your steps to be in this place to hear this word about showing love so that others who are less fortunate than you and I might be able to live?
Perhaps God has brought you to this very moment to have this opportunity with the blessings he has already given you to allow you to be a blessing and give love so that others might live?
