Everyone Needs What Christ Can Do

There is one truth about life that stands out:

We are sinners in need of a Savior.

We have given in to the lies of the world
We have given in to the lies of our flesh
We have given in to the pride of our own lives.
But some don’t really want to agree.

Some want to hide their unholiness

Some Will Seek Healing

Psalm 25:16–17 CSB
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am alone and afflicted. 17 The distresses of my heart increase; bring me out of my sufferings.

Some Will Find Forgiveness

Psalm 25:18 CSB
18 Consider my affliction and trouble, and forgive all my sins.

The Truth of God

1 John 1:5 CSB
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in him.

We Trip Along in Darkness

1 John 1:6 CSB
6 If we say, “We have fellowship with him,” and yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth.

When We Are Forgiven, We Find the Light

1 John 1:7 CSB
7 If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

But Some Are Too Proud To Admit Sin

1 John 1:8 CSB
8 If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

That means we are lying to ourselves about our sin

Proverbs 28:13 CSB
13 The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.

The Promise of Forgiveness Is For Those Who Confess

1 John 1:9 CSB
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
And when we have sinned against one another, as friends, as siblings, as family members, as church members or any other way,

We Must Also Confess To Each Other

James 5:16 CSB
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.
That is Biblical. You don’t need a priest to seek the forgiveness of God, but

You need to be face to face to seek the forgiveness of one another.

Forgiveness Does Not Come Cheap

Matthew 26:27–28 CSB
27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks, he gave it to them and said, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Ephesians 1:7 CSB
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace
Hebrews 9:22 CSB
22 According to the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

If We Won’t Admit That We Have Sin, We Call God a Liar.

1 John 1:10 CSB
10 If we say, “We have not sinned,” we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

God Calls Us to Holiness

Holiness Starts With Confession of Sin So We May Find God’s Forgiveness
