Jude 3 NASB95
3 Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.
Familiar reminder we find in the epistles / Paul, Peter and so on
Contend earnestly for the faith / Defend the faith
SLIDE 6
DEFEND THE FAITH
What does that mean exactly / is this truly important
Out there we are under constant pressure to defend ourselves / comes in 2 forms
Jude first mentions of the common salvation - very important
Handed down to the saints
Defend the faith from what?
Jude not talking to a particular church / every follower of Christ / true child of the faith
Ungodly people that creep in unnoticed / people that turn God’s grace into a joke / Jude describes it as those that actually are denying our Master and Lord Jesus Christ
Do very little or nothing with the truth of God’s word / no changing effects

SLIDE 13
CERTAIN PERSONS CREEP IN
*ungodly
*indulge in corrupt fleshly desires
*despise authority / no fear of God and His host
*scoff at things known by instinct / no understanding
*grumblers / find fault / arrogant / use flattery for gain
*bear no fruit / pulled up by the roots
*create divisions / follow their own instincts
follow own instincts - governed by breath, animal like characteristics, God’s Spirit not in them
These people that creep in, will even participate in the fellowship meals as well a s communion but are described as dangerouse reefs that can shipwreck you.
Jude even describes Michael the archangel not even overstepping His bounds / fearing God and not even himself passes judgement. The example of Moses body being argued over with satan
These false teachers and in their pride, despise authority and really speak evil about holy things in their sin and ignorance
Then Jude makes a major shift in this book - But You! and repeats this twice
First was remember this is what all the apostles predicted and told us these things, second but you! is what we have to do.
