Psalm 92

a song for the Sabbath day
this psalm signifies all the benefits of coming together on a holy day
we celebrate the glorious deeds of Jesus
we are liberated, free to follow God in all his majesty
Psalm 92:1–8 NIV
It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts! Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand, that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever. But you, Lord, are forever exalted.
It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp.
it is good to praise the Lord
there is an importance of music
there is a connection between praise and music
music is an emotional response yet there is a deeper aspect
praise extends into the spirit of a person
For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, Lord, how profound your thoughts!
the Lord does mighty deeds
there needs to be a constant reminder of the Lord’s great deeds
God’s thoughts are profound
we as humans need to move past our limitations
our thoughts are not the same as GOd’s
his ways are higher
his deeds bring joy to us
let us rejoice
Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand, that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.
as is common in the psalms, the wicked are held in contrast
seemingly the world is full of the wicked and the foolish
yet they are nothing when compared to God
human experience suggests that the wicked flourish
godly wisdom tells of ultimate failure
wicked perish yet the righteous will live forever in the glory of Jesus
But you, Lord, are forever exalted
an eternal truth is clearly stated
The Lord is exalted forever
Colossians 1:15-19 15  The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16  For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
17  He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
18  And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
19  For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him
