John sums up the problem & it is not accepting the testimony of God - the testimony concerning His Son, Jesus. Idolatry will always want to impose man’s belief’s over God’s revelation. In John’s 1st Epistle, he nails the problem succinctly - that it is idolatrous thinking that is robbing the true church of it’s eternal life. We must hold faithfully to the incarnation of Jesus Christ.
