[Video] 21PT3 - The longest marriage in America
thats what we all want
70% of men and women say the quality of their relationship is friendship
we need to be intentional about being friends.
its easy to grow apart. constantly arguing ro giving silent treament.
question - why do we grow apart?
93% of adult believe a strong marriage is important.
48% believe that a strong marriage is possible.
Marriage works
Problem is we don’t understand how to get there
The scriptures that are supposed to help us offends us.
Eph 5:21 “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
sounds like frienships
Eph 5:22-25 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
Eph 5:28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.”
Eph 5:33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”
we like what this says about our spouse.
men have memorized their par.
wives dream of a man who would lay his life down for her.
these verses have been taken out of context
submit to each other - we are equals
melissa and i don’t dominate each other.
Eph 5:21Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
we have differnt need in partnership and friendship
it is possible to grow old together as friends
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
we submit to wives the same way Jesus submitted to us - by serving us.
Luke 12:37
... he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.
men have lorded “head of household” over women. - that means you are the greatest servant.
Jesus wanted us to have a secure relationship with him.
in the same way women need a secure relationship with their husbands who are in tune with their needs.
what makes men attractive is their sacrificial nature.
House Work
male sweat - women were more relaxed, happy, and romantic.
Women
mens needs are honor, sex, friendship
honor is like ogygen to us.
1 Pet 3:1-4 Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
gentle and quiet = honoring - trust in God
women are beautiful - make sure its on the inside.
the less you have beauty on the inside the more they have to do on the outside.
boys are the same.
when we understand the power of Ephesians we can become friends and partners for life.
trust is at the foundation of every strong friendship and partnership.
A man trusts an honoring woman
A woman trusts a sacrificial man.
Eph builds trust and makes us attractive to each other.
when a husband or wife repents we will grow closer
