I. Incarnation of Christ (v.1-18)

II. Initial Ministry of Christ

II(A). Proclamation of the Son by John the Baptist (1:19-34)

II(B). Calling of the First Disciples (1:35-51)

II(C). The First Miracle (2:1-11)

What was Jesus first miracle?

*Notice, this account isn’t listed in any other gospel. Namely, because John and a few other of the disciples were the only ones to see it. Before Jesus official public ministry and before the other disciples were officially called.

What did Jesus’ response to Mary (His mother) mean?

Woman”-
What does this have to do with me”-
My hour has not yet come”-
Compare John 8:20 with John 13:1
John 8:20 ESV
These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
John 13:1 ESV
Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

Why is it significant that they had “kept the good wine until now”?

*It is a parallel to God’s best, His Son, who had now come.

What did John call this miracle and what is significant about that thought?

The miracles of Jesus are called signs by John in order to emphasize the significance of the miracles rather than the miracles themselves.
They were given to....
reveal various aspects of the person and work of Christ (here, it was His glory)
encourage faith in His true followers.

II(D). Zeal for God (2:13-22)

“Do not make my Father’s house a house of trade?” What did Jesus’ mean by this?

Did Jesus sin when He got angry (wasn’t his only occasion of anger - see Mark 3:5)? Isn’t anger a sin?

Ephesians 4:26 ESV
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

What did Jesus mean when He said, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up”?
