35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.
Jesus has had interactions with these two here in Mark previously.
In the parallel account (Matthew 20:20-ff) it is their mother that asks Jesus this question.
36 And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?
The words of God are the key to answered prayer.

They were not ready for what was to follow as they did not understand the Gospel.
