Exodus 23:13

And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
1 occurrence of “make no mention“ in the Bible.
Why would God tell the Jew wandering in the wilderness in the giving of the law to “make no mention of the name of other gods”?
Here are the REASONS why:

I. Because of Their Lack of Knowledge of God Himself.

Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Christian people’s children have been forgotten by God.
Christian preacher’s children have been forgotten by God.
Simply learning about the Lord from the Scriptures.

II. Because of Their Need of Repentance of Those “gods”.

Hosea 14:2 (AV)
Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.
“turn to the LORD”. How? Words!
You come to God on His terms Not yours.
As sinners we come to Jesus for salvation not security.
As Saints we come to Jesus in repentance not rededication.

III. Because God did not want them teaching by mention of those gods in front of future generations.

Hosea 14:2
“Take away all iniquity“
iniquity - (Websters 1828)
A particular deviation from morality; wickedness; any act of injustice.
Your iniquities have separated between you and your God. Isa 59:2
Original want of holiness or depravity.
I was shapen in iniquity. Psa 51:5
Conclusion:
Did you become the way you are and do the things you did because someone bragged about their good ol’ days on sin and hopelessness?
