1 Samuel 17:17–23 ESV
And Jesse said to David his son, “Take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers. Also take these ten cheeses to the commander of their thousand. See if your brothers are well, and bring some token from them.” Now Saul and they and all the men of Israel were in the Valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines. And David rose early in the morning and left the sheep with a keeper and took the provisions and went, as Jesse had commanded him. And he came to the encampment as the host was going out to the battle line, shouting the war cry. And Israel and the Philistines drew up for battle, army against army. And David left the things in charge of the keeper of the baggage and ran to the ranks and went and greeted his brothers. As he talked with them, behold, the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, came up out of the ranks of the Philistines and spoke the same words as before. And David heard him.
Intro: You know so often we find out who it is God wants us to be ( which by the way is never who we are) and then we precieve what said journey will look like and be like and feel like. and hen we run smack into reality of it not looking like we thought or feeling like it or being like it.
So how do we react in those moments and what does Trusting God look like in those moments.
It is here in this famous bible story we can find thaought it is so much more than just slaying Giants. David shows us it is about trusting God and what it looks like.
So lets look at the story
HOW DID DAVID GET THERE
1 Samuel 17:17–18 ESV
And Jesse said to David his son, “Take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers. Also take these ten cheeses to the commander of their thousand. See if your brothers are well, and bring some token from them.”
David was anointed to be King but delivering Sandwiches
I’m called to preach and I’m cleaning a toilet
David was faithful and obedient
1 corinthians 4:2
1 Corinthians 4:2 ESV
Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.
If you are going to trust God you are going to have to be faithful where he puts you and trust his process.
Proverbs 18:16 ESV
A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before the great.
Trust what God has given you is sufficient to get you where he wants you.
When your gift puts you where he wants you you have to react the way God wants you to react
HOW WAS DAVID EFFECTED BY WHERE HE FOUND HIMSELF
1 Samuel 17:26 ESV
And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
A deep concern and righteous anger were aroused in David when he saw Goliath defy Israel’s troops and saw the soldiers flee from him
When God Gifts you to be somewhere it the anointing comes with its own Boldness
David had a boldness to know i have a voice
Boldness to speak
Boldness to stand
when no one else would
now..
David was not trained to be there
David wasn’t looking to be there
He was just trying to deliver a sandwich
I’m just trying to do what my daddy said to do
Even when his brother talked about him for being there calling prideful
because he spoke up.
HOW DID DAVID RESPOND TO BEING THERE
1 Samuel 17:31–37 ESV
When the words that David spoke were heard, they repeated them before Saul, and he sent for him. And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth, and he has been a man of war from his youth.” But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep sheep for his father. And when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb from the flock, I went after him and struck him and delivered it out of his mouth. And if he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and struck him and killed him. Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.” And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”
When they heard David was willing to go they said ok but you need to look like us when you do what we been trying to do
David said that ain’t me
See when the Gift God gave you gets you where God wants you
You have to be bold enough brave enough to say I don’t need to look like everybody else to be who God made me to be
David chose to go with what he knew ....who he was
Be who God made you to be.
Stay the course that God put you on even when it doesn’t look like what you thought it would look like
Don’t be afraid to stand for your God Boldly
