Tonight we start Counseling Elective
Daddy & Daughter Date Night
Jesus has come not to collude with Satan but rather to confront and destroy his works. Jesus is far greater than any prophets or kings who have come before and the truth of His deity is undeniable.
Luke 11:14–32 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:14–32 KJV 1900
14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. 15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. 16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. 17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. 18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. 19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. 20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. 23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. 24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. 25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. 26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. 27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. 29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. 30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. 31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

Addendum to last week

Luke 11:13 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:13 KJV 1900
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Jesus has come not to collude with Satan but rather to confront and destroy his works.

Accusation that Jesus was working with Satan.

Beelzebub, Lord of the Flies (filth/dung)
2 King 1:3 But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?
Connection of the righteous, lovely Lord Jesus with the most vile.
Years ago, I played the role of the Anti-Christ in an outdoor drama. Jesus was accused of being a puppet to Satan.

This appears to be a common false teaching in that day.

It is not logical.
It is seen again in a separate story.
Matthew 9:34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.
Matthew 9:34 KJV 1900
34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.
Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
Matthew 12:24 KJV 1900
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
Matthew 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
Matthew 11:18 KJV 1900
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
Now reported by the common man. Luke 11:15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.
Luke 11:15 KJV 1900
15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.

This accusation is illogical.

It is the only other option.
No man, could do what He did.
They are whispering about Him.
Luke 11:17 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:17 KJV 1900
17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.
They would say “amen” to this but it falls apart Luke 11:18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.
Luke 11:18 KJV 1900
18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.

This accusation lacks integrity

Luke 11:19 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:19 KJV 1900
19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
Their sons were far less effective than Jesus.
If their sons are doing it by God and Jesus by Satan this would mean Satan is stronger than God.
Satan will allow false teachers to succeed to deceive.
Sadness and humor seen in Acts 19:11-13 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. 13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
Acts 19:11–13 KJV 1900
11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. 13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
Here is the humor. Acts 19:14 “14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.”
Acts 19:14 KJV 1900
14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

Best that they could do is clean up a room

Luke 11:26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
Luke 11:26 KJV 1900
26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

This is accusation is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit

Luke 11:20 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:20 KJV 1900
20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
Jesus is pleading with them to recognize it is of God.
They couldn’t recognize the Kingdom of God when He stood right in front of them.

They deny the work of God.

Backstory
Exodus 8:19 (KJV 1900)
Exodus 8:19 KJV 1900
19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.
19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.

Simple story to illustrate their willful ignorance

Luke 11:21–22 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:21–22 KJV 1900
21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

They blaspheme.

Instead of saying “this is the finger of God” shows their unwillingness to see what is clear.
This is why atheism is a matter of the heart not intellect.
Some teach that could only be committed by those of this generation. (narrow view)
Blasphemy could be by individuals when they fully reject the ministry of the Holy Spirit drawing them to Christ. (broader view)
Blasphemy against the spirit could be anytime you spoke against a minister who was ministering in the Spirit (broader view)
Blasphemy could be committed with your lips. (broadest view)

Biblical understanding

John 7:19-20 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? 20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
John 7:19–20 KJV 1900
19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? 20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?

They are believers and unbelievers at the same time.

They call him a samaritan.
They say He is born of fornication.
They are aware that supernatural is at work.

They choose to say that spirit is the devil.

Despite all evidence to the contrary.
They should be rejoicing others found liberty. Luke 11:14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.
Luke 11:14 KJV 1900
14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.

Within context this a sin of speech

Matthew 12:32–37 (KJV 1900)
Matthew 12:32–37 KJV 1900
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. 33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Why would they talk this way?

Matthew 12:33 (KJV 1900)
Matthew 12:33 KJV 1900
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
They were revealing that there hearts were utterly corrupt.
Sin of speech because it reveals the heart.
Speech is important because is the primary way we reveal what is in our hearts.

Blasphemy is not the slip of the tongue.

It is calculated speech from the heart that is so perverse that it choices to justify its own refusal to submit.
A heart that calls the power evil when the heart is evil.

Why is this such a serious sin?

It is a justification of personal evil by calling the Holy Spirit evil.
We see God’s willingness to forgive sin. Look at David’s life, woman at the well, Peter’s 3 fold denial with profanity, Saul killed Christians.
What is so heinous about this sin?
is this that the Holy Spirit is more important than the Father and the Son?
Is it that the Holy Spirit is more sensitive?
If you reject the conviction and light of the Holy Spirit you are rejecting the only means of coming to a saving knowledge.

Such a strong claim but isn’t it necessary if Jesus is not the Lord.

I enjoy watching Star Trek because it gives me hope that in the future there will be no religion.
Two extremes.
There should be no religion.
All religions are equal.
Same result.

Lotus Temple. A circle of chairs with no one speaking. No authority.

In Christ or out. It really is that simple.

Luke 11:23
23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
Story: Carter had a light blue bowl of water but added all the colors to it and found that it made it mirky and gray. Not vibrant and colorful.
Larry King to John MacArthur. All the world is gray.

Could this sin against the Holy Spirit be committed today, by you?

Yes because those who will hear His messengers could commit it.
Luke 12:10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
Luke 12:10 KJV 1900
10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
Spirit Medium - martin Lloyd Jones - clean power. If she chose to call it the devil. It would be blasphemy and damnable. - Text Book example. Others are much more subtle.
Hebrews 10:26 (KJV 1900)
Hebrews 10:26 KJV 1900
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
This is not deliberately stealing but the willful sin about to be described.
Hebrews 10:27–29 (KJV 1900)
Hebrews 10:27–29 KJV 1900
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite (insulting) unto the Spirit of grace?

Do we have as much of a witness of the truth that those in the Bible would have had?

You have a NT that presents to you Jesus that did what no man could have done.
We should either be burning this book or burning with a desire to share it.
Don’t recoil from the conviction that Spirit has brought into your life.

Jesus is far greater than any prophets or kings who have come before.

Some of the crowd after for further proof.

Luke 11:16 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:16 KJV 1900
16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.
16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.
Jesus had provided ample proof to anyone who was willing to believe.
They were being willfully blind.
Jesus says so much in Luke 12:54-56 “54 And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is. 55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. 56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
Luke 12:54–56 KJV 1900
54 And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is. 55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. 56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

People were willing to recognize that Jesus was special, but Jesus demands, deserves, and should receive more.

Luke 11:27 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:27 KJV 1900
27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
Don’t say my mother is blessed to be my mom but keep my Word and be blessed.
Luke 11:28 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:28 KJV 1900
28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
People were gathered thick and Jesus addresses their thick hearts.
Luke 11:29–32 (KJV 1900)
Luke 11:29–32 KJV 1900

Both stories speak of the work and wisdom of Jesus.

Story of Jonah. His life was an undeniable message to the Ninevites.
The Queen of Sheba saw the wisdom of God when she saw Solomons temple.

You have a greater witness!

Let me tell you about the stronger man!

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 3:8 (KJV 1900)
1 John 3:8 KJV 1900
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Jesus can forgive sins

Mark 3:27–28 (KJV 1900)
Mark 3:27–28 KJV 1900
27 No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. 28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
27 No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
