The People are arguing about Jesus,
Jesus says to them that His is going to the Father, and where He is going they cant go.
Jesus spoke of the Holy Spirit
His promise that the Holy Spirit will come to His people
The Jews wants Jesus dead.
Lets read:
John 7:40-53.
John 7:40-53.
40 Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, “This certainly is the Prophet.”
41 Others were saying, “This is the Christ.” Still others were saying, “Surely the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He?
42 “Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”
43 So a division occurred in the crowd because of Him.
44 Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
45 The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
46 The officers answered, “Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks.”
47 The Pharisees then answered them, “You have not also been led astray, have you?
48 “No one of the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he?
49 “But this crowd which does not know the Law is accursed.”
50 Nicodemus (he who came to Him before, being one of them) said to them,
51 “Our Law does not judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?”
52 They answered him, “You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.”
53 Everyone went to his home.
v. 40-43
v. 40-43
division and debate is taking place.
Prophet, Christ, or ?????
Prophet, Christ, or ?????
v.40
v.40
people are saying here that Jesus is a prophet because of His work.
He is the promised one
these people didn't forget about Jesus feeding of the 5000, or the other great things that He has done.
plus hHis preaching,
v.41
v.41
some people were saying that Jesus is the Christ/ Anointed one/ the Messiah.
Their were people that believed that Jesus was and is the Son of God.
v. 41-43
v. 41-43
41 Others were saying, “This is the Christ.” Still others were saying, “Surely the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He?
42 “Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”
43 So a division occurred in the crowd because of Him.
so we see a division here.
Jesus is a prophet!!!
Jesus is a prophet!!!!
Jesus is the Christ!!!!!
but..... is he a descendent of DAVID
So it could be a debate between those who believe that Jesus is a prophet and those who believe that Jesus is the Christ.
The Big But. Arguing in ignorance
The Big But. Arguing in ignorance
People are asking, the Messiah is not coming from Galilee
Then they bring up that the scriptures say that the Messiah is would be a descendant of David from Bethlehem.
Never realizing that the everything they are arguing about, proves all the more that Jesus is the Messiah.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem , not Galilee.
He is from the line of David
If they would have done a little research and background check, they would know that Jesus is the Messiah.
STOP AND THINK
car wash quarter story: 4 quarter an hour wash 25c for 15 mins
We fight in ignorance!!!!!
v. 44-46
44 Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
45 The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
46 The officers answered, “Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks.”
The Jewish elites wanted Jesus arrested (John 7:32)
Now the guard returned to the chief priest and Pharisees empty handed.
These Guard were struck with Jesus’s teaching, that they could not deny His truth.
No man!!
No man, (an-thro-pos)( as in human being) has ever spoke like this.
The guards knew something was up.
Religious folk anger.
Religious folk anger.
v. 47-53
v. 47-53
These guards are trained in the scriptures
So when they returned to the elites, they were not challenged because of there ability to be guard, but there religious training
they accused the guards for being deceived by Jesus.
“We are the prefect examples of God’s people and were are not deceived
Theology vs God
Theology vs God
These elites who know the scriptures and has placed there theology on there own needs and lust, held this theology to the people.
and this theology was there foundation over God Himself.
Do we see this?
what does God say about Himself???
V.49
V.49
49 “But this crowd which does not know the Law is accursed.”
Now they attack the people saying that the debate, the crown are cursed. Because they are ignorant of there law, and there customs
call Jesus demon filled
call the people accursed
V.50-51
V.50-51
50 Nicodemus (he who came to Him before, being one of them) said to them,
51 “Our Law does not judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?”
Nicodemus was one of the Pharisees that came to meet with Jesus over the cover of darkness. later came to Jesus defense.
In other words. “Why would you try to kill Jesus without a trail?
Nicodemus was still with the Jewish elite, but he was a believer in Jesus.
V.52-53
52 They answered him, “You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.”
53 Everyone went to his home.
They challenge Nicodemus.
They tell them that No prophet comes from Galilee
Jesus comes from Bethlehem!!
These elites were wrong
These elites were wrong
So as in the the previous verse. The Pharisees though that not one none of them believers of Jesus. But they were wrong (Nicodemus did)
They also said that no prophets come from Galilee. They were wrong (Jonah did and so did Elijah)
rolax story……again
The Jewish elites are drowning themselves in there own ignorance and pride
