The Assurance of the Romance v 10
The Assurance of the Romance v 10
1.) The Praise in the Assurance
1.) The Praise in the Assurance
The Character of the Praise
The Character of the Praise
Both Ruth and Boaz had great character we have said this many times through out this study.
Here in verse 10 Boaz wanted Ruth to be blessed by God.
He wanted her to have divine praise for her actions with how she came to him seeking marriage. She did it the right way.
There are too many people today who don’t follow the Bible when it comes to what it says about marriage.
They don’t want to put the right things in the right order and then they often want to blame God for the marriage failing, when in reality they are the ones to blame for it not working.
Boaz wanted Gods praise for Ruth because it is the highest form of Praise there is.
we should all want the best things of our spouse.
We should help them gain that most high praise that can only come from God.
The Courting in the Praise
The Courting in the Praise
If you notice here in verse 10 Boaz calls Ruth daughter, this is a very different term than Ruth used to describe herself in verse 9 when she used “hand maiden”
Boaz used this intimate form of the word for loved one to show Ruth that he was interested in her as his wife.
The Cause of the Praise
The Cause of the Praise
A.) Progress
A.) Progress
Ruth showed faith through this whole book but it deepens the farther into the book we get.
Here she is showing great love for her dead husband by seeking to keep his name alive through a kinsman redeemer.
If she shows this much love and kindness to her dead husband how much would she show to one that was living.
This not only shows her faithfulness but the deep love that she is capable of.
B.) Preference
B.) Preference
Boaz was a contemporary of Elimelech and was most likely around the same age was he was.
Here Ruth is praised for wanting the things of the spirit and wanting to carry on the name of her dead husband rather than seeking out someone her own age.
While yes the two loved each other the main reason she sought him out was because he was the one that could carry on her husbands name.
This was very important during this time in the Bible, people looked at couples that had a lot of kids as a family that was blessed by the Lord.
Their name will last for many generations in the land of Juda.
2.) The Promise in the Assurance v11
2.) The Promise in the Assurance v11
The Courting in the promise
The Courting in the promise
Once again here in verse 11 Boaz refers to Ruth as “my Daughter” once again by him repeating this pet name it shows that has true feelings for Ruth and is truly in love with her.
The once that we love the most we rarely call them by there given names.
The Comfort in the promise
The Comfort in the promise
Boaz made Ruth feel ok with the actions that she had taken coming to him, she did as she was told but most likely did not fully understand the custom that she was doing.
By using the words that he did Boaz put Ruth at ease and made her feel safe and secure most likely for the first time since her husband past away.
He told her to “fear not” about what she had done giving her reassurance that she had done the right thing.
The phrase “Fear Not” is used many times in the Bible:
Abraham Gen 15:1
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.”
Jacob Gen 46:3
Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation.
Moses Num 21:34
But the Lord said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have given him into your hand, and all his people, and his land. And you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”
Paul Acts 27:24
and he said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’
God also tells us to “Fear Not”
for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
What the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.
The completeness of the promise
The completeness of the promise
Boaz promised to do “all that she asked of him”
Being in a relationship cannot be a part time commitment.
Boaz once again shows his good character by doing all he can and all that Ruth asked of him.
In our relationships there will be times when we want to give up but we must keep going and remember that we are not only in a relationship with the other person but it is also a relationship with Christ. If He is at the center of all our relationships then they will work out fine.
The cause of the promise
The cause of the promise
Boaz wanted to marry Ruth because she was a virtuous women
Defining of virtuousness
Defining of virtuousness
Ruth was a very good women we see this through the whole book.
From her following and being faithful to Naomi coming back to Bethlehem.
From her tolling in the fields to get the grain so they could survive.
From the way she followed Naomi’s instructions on how to show Boaz she was ready to enter a relationship.
This is the type of women we should work to be and these are the type of women we should seek to marry.
Displaying of virtuousness
Displaying of virtuousness
Everyone in the city knew who Ruth was
She not only showed her virtuousness to Naomi and Boaz but to everyone she came into contact with.
She was a reflection of love and grace to all people.
