Your Sins Are Forgiven

Mark 2: 1-2 A few days later, when Jesus came back to Capernaum, the news spread that he was at home. 2 Many people gathered together so that there was no room in the house, not even outside the door. And Jesus was teaching them God’s message. 3 Four people came, carrying a paralyzed man. 4 Since they could not get to Jesus because of the crowd, they dug a hole in the roof right above where he was speaking. When they got through, they lowered the mat with the paralyzed man on it. 5 When Jesus saw the faith of these people, he said to the paralyzed man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”

To begin with brothers and sisters As we look at the text we can’t help but see ourselves in this text.

The text say in Mark 2: 1 that is was noised abroad that Jesus had come back home to Capernaum in his own house. I don’t care how long you’ve been on the road sooner or later you get tired and want to go back home. And the word got out that Jesus was back at home in Capernaum and folk started coming. The word of God says that Jesus preached to them the word of God.I imagine that Jesus was preaching

1. Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand

2. Bless are the pure in heart for they shall see God

3.Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceed out of the mouth of God

4. The Son of Man came to seek and save those that are lost and need salvation

5. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you

6. Judge not that ye be not judged.

7.Forgive men their trespasses, and your heavenly Father will also forgive you of your trespasses

8. Love your enemies and do good to them that hate you. Folks we’ve got Learn how to be kindhearted to people who don’t even deserve your compassion

9.Love your neighbor as yourself

10. And He that doeth the will of my Father will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven

And folk knowing that Jesus was home and knowing Jesus’s reputation the citizens in Capernaum brought anybody that was sick to try to get them close to Jesus. But Sadly enough in 2022 in some cases when people are sick they stay home and stay away from church. It’s a personal choice but as for me, just me now 2x if I’m sick and I can walk and talk and I’m not contagious get me to church. Because if I’m in the house where prayers can be heard and tender mercy can be found, then I know I’ve as good a chance to get healed as anybody else because God is no respecter of persons. Look at the text in Mark 2 verses 3&4

The paralyzed man had four brothers that didn’t mind helping him.They helped him 3x. but I also noticed that the Paralyzed man didn’t try to add extra baggage to the scenario. Listen to me real good if somebody is willing to help you, don’t you drag everybody and your mama into the mix.

The Paralyzed man realizes that he is heavy, the door is crowded, there are wall to wall people in and outside the house and they are listening to the word of God. Now we’ve got a problem and so the paralyzed man’s brothers have to figure out another way.

I imagine that Somebody ran back home and got a latter. Somebody went and got ropes,Somebody went and got some tools like a pick or a hatchet.

And oh don’t you see them taking care of their brother, raising him up 8 feet to the top of the flat roof. This Palestinian flat roof was unique with the straw, clay, lattice, and tile.

Two brothers are holding the paralyzed brother up with the ropes, while two brothers are digging through Jesus’ roof. I noticed in the text that Jesus or none of his guest didn’t dirt or hurt from falling debris. The brothers did a neat job. and so again in verse 4 the bible says 4 Since they could not get to Jesus because of the crowd, they dug a hole in the roof right above where he was speaking. When they got through, they lowered the mat with the paralyzed man on it.

Verse 5 When Jesus saw the faith of these people, he said to the paralyzed man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.” And many times as I have a had to deal with this text I’m still astonished. by these words “ when Jesus saw their faith” Because now this bridges the gap from biblical antiquity to right here and right now. Right now there ought to be somebody in your life that you’re lifting up in prayer that they will receive their healing. This is when it’s not about you. This is when you have care, concern, and compassion for somebody else’s plight in life.

Come on give God a Hand When Jesus saw their faith Jesus told the people he was preaching to in essence and in reality “son thy sin are forgiven thee” You and I don’t have a tablet long enough to write down every one of the sins that Jesus has forgiven us of. And at the height of our greatest pious effort to camouflage our sins God know our true character and all of us fall short of the glory God.

but there were some self righteous people there in the crowd, who were thinking some seriously negative stuff about Jesus. It’s got people that come to your house and are thinking negative stuff about you, while they are in your face in your house. and If you knew what they were really thinking about you, you would ask them to leave.

Let’s see what they were thinking Mark 2:6 Some of the teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 “Why does this man say things like that? He is speaking as if he were God. Only God can forgive sins.”

As a minister set for the defense of the Gospel I’d like to give my apologetic defense to the verses 6&7. Jesus Christ is the Messiah the Very Son of God He is God the Son the second person in the trinity and Just for the record there is no other name whereby men must be saved but the name of Jesus. If you’re not forgiven of your sins you can’t be saved.And if Jesus is not saving you you’re on your way to hell And you can’t save yourself you can’t do it own volition it’s a free gift from God. So Jesus says “Son your sins are forgiven”, plain and simple. Let me show you how plain and simple is really is.8 Jesus knew immediately what these teachers of the law were thinking. So he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? 9 Which is easier: to tell this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to tell him, ‘Stand up. Take your mat and walk’? 10 But I will prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” What can wash away my sin nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Jesus is the only One that Has the authority to say that my sins are forgiven. Jesus has the Exousia to speak over my life and say “son your sins are forgiven” Jesus has the power to tell the devil I’m sorry that you’re mad about one you thought you had because “Son Thy Sin Be forgiven thee”. I’m so glad Jesus looked passed my faults and saw about my every need. Because Jesus goes down to the inner most elements of our existence and extract out the god like character in us and then forgives us of all that other foolishness…Jesus has the authority to forgive sins and heal us um um all at the same time.

Let me prove it look at the latter part of verse 10 So Jesus said to the paralyzed man, 11 “I tell you, stand up, take your mat, and go home.” Now here’s what the text does not say the text does not say that the after the brothers brought a latter brought ropes brought tools dug through Jesus’ roof lowered their brother down to the feet of Jesus. the text does not say that the paralyzed man really believed for his healing.Heretofore we have no real evidence that the paralyzed man believed Jesus for his miracle. You’ve got to believe in the power of healing for yourself And here’s the evidence look at verse 12 Immediately the paralyzed man stood up, took his mat, and walked out while everyone was watching him. Now that’s how you do it big 3x The paralyzed man didn’t get up and say my determination is for heaven and immortal glory you pray for me and I’ll pray for you.. In fact in the text I don’t ever see where the man said nothing!!!! He got up took his bed with him and walked out. Some things don’t need a commentary, some things don’t need an explanation some things don’t need to have a review panel to see what just happen here. God’s miracles are sure and a whole lot of them can’t be explained. But they can be celebrated yeah yeah yeah because the bible says The people were amazed and praised God. They said, “We have never seen anything like this!”
