Q: Are you guys content with every area of your life?
What are areas you want to change?
I want to have better relationships with you all you guys and the people at church.
I want to feel fufilled in the work that I do and in life.
What has to happen to guarantee to that someone is able to make a long lasting change?
The only way to truly change your life willingly is to change the way you think.
Have you guys seen the movie inception? Its kind of like that.
Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
That first part says what? Do not be conformed but be transformed?
What is the difference between the two words?
Definitions:
Conform - behave according to socially acceptable conventions or standards or be similar in form or type. To agree.
Transform - make a thorough or dramatic change in the form, appearance, or character of.
Confirming has to do with behavior
I will start dressing like this, using these words.
People want to fit in so badly that entire areas have similar accents. Southerners influence each other to sound southern. City people do the same.
Transforming has to do with Character
My desire has changed.
Conforming is from the outside in
Transforming is from the inside out.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
We are going to study how God wants to transform you in 7 areas of your life. Those areas are
Spiritual Health
Physical Health
Mental Health
Emotional Health
Relational Health
Financial Heath
Vocational Health
Q: Which of those areas of those do you feel is suffering in your life?
For me I will say - Emotional Health and Relational Health
Why does it matte what our emotional, mental or job health is?
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
How exactly do we change the way we think about a particular topic? Does God magically change our mind at some point?
God convicts us to change our minds
John 16:7–8 ESV
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
What is Jesus saying here about conviction? The Holy Spirit will convit the world
That conviction is of the ultimate purpose, to know God and serve Him.
Q: Is that the only thing that the Holy Spirit will convict people of?
John 14:26 ESV
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Is the all things here mean only spiritual things? Or could it mean in all things relating to how to live life.
Spiritual Health
Physical Health
Mental Health
Emotional Health
Relational Health
Financial Heath
Vocational Health
The great things we all don't have the same struggle. Some of us may struggle with our emotional health and other wont. Others struggle with relational or financial health and others wont. These are the areas where we can help one another out where iron can sharpen iron.
As we learn to think differently then we will begin to live differently.
If you think God’s way then you begin to live God’s way.
