Abraham was tested - To sacrifice his son Isaac at the alter
Joseph was tested: Psalm 105:19 Until the time came to fulfil his dreams, the LORD tested Joseph’s character.
Peter was tested – Jesus asks, do you love me?
Philip was tested – Philip: maybe the like the tour manager / organised the provisions
JESUS GOES ON TO FEED THE 5000
WHAT I FIRST THOUGHT
- WHEN I FIRST READ THIS PASSAGE I THOUGHT OK, JESUS WAS PUTTING PHILIP’s FAITH TO THE TEST SEE WHAT HE WAS GOING TO SAY AND DO – that’s what test are right?
- THING IS, JESUS ALREADY KNEW WHAT PHILIP WAS GOING TO SAY AND DO
- WHEN GOD ASKS QUESTIONS, HE ALREADY KNOWS THE ANSWER
- WHEN HE TESTS US, HE ALREADY KNOWS WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO AND SAY
- 1 John 3:20 – God knows everything
GOD TESTED PHILIP FOR HIS BENEFIT
To know what was in his heart - To help him gauge where his faith was really at
IN THAT MOMENT, PHILIP FAILED TO PUT GOD FIRST – How is that you might say?
Philip was looking in the natural and had he put God first he would have seen that Jesus was Lord over all.
PUTTING GOD FIRST & FAITH ARE CONNECTED
PHILIP HAD ALREADY SEEN JESUS DO MIRACLES YET THIS SITUATION WAS DIFFERENT
Jesus turn the water into wine / Jesus healed the dying son of the Royal Official / Jesus healed the invalid at the pool of Bethesda
SOMETHING NEW COMES ALONG - HOW OFTEN DOES THAT HAPPEN IN OUR LIVES?
WHEN YOU ARE TESTED IT’S FOR OUR BENEFIT
JESUS KNOWS YOUR SITUATION – Every last detail
JUST LIKE PHILIP
RECOGNISE THE DISTRACTIONS, RECOGNISE THE TESTS

YOU WERE CREATED TO HAVE HIM FIRST IN YOUR LIFE
WE DON’T DESERVE ANYTHING / WE NEEED TO BE GRATEFUL FOR EVETYTHING WE HAVE IN OUR LIVES
JESUS – OUR KING
Lamb of God / Light of the World / Lion of Judah / Judge of the living and the dead / Lord of all Mediator / Messiah / Mighty one
One Who Sets Free / Our Hope / Our peace / Our rock Prophet / Redeemer / Risen Lord
Sacrifice for Our Sins / Saviour / Son of the Most High / Supreme Over All
Resurrection and the Life / The way, the truth and the life / Victorious One
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
