Proverbs 18:14 KJV 1900
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a wounded spirit who can bear?
If a the spirit of a man is healthy, he is able to sustain his infirmity of sickness until his body heals itself naturally. God has designed the body to heal itself as time passes by.
However this is not the case for the spirit of man. Our spirit can not heal itself of its wound without coming to the father of our spirit.
A spiritual wound must not be borne and cannot be borne. Why? because as time goes by its going to get worse and worse rather than better.
You have to come to God, inorder for your spirit to be restored back to health.
Only God can heal the Spiritual wounds of man.
People can carry wounds in their spirit that may have been inflicted in their childhood all the way to their adulthood. Because if they don’t come to God they won’t get their spirit restored.
Note: remember we are spiritual being in phyical body. We are composed of two nature, flesh and spirit.
Only God can heal your wounds
Hosea 5:13 NKJV
13 “When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah saw his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria And sent to King Jareb; Yet he cannot cure you, Nor heal you of your wound.
God speaks of the futility of trying to get your spiritual wounds healed by someone or something else besides God.
Jeremiah 8:22 NKJV
22 Is there no balm in Gilead, Is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery For the health of the daughter of my people?
When we try to carry our wounds refrain from coming to God for it to be healed. It will be just a perpetual wound that never heals.
There is a balm in Gilead, there is a physician in Gilead

Define Spiritual Wounds

Self inflicted wound
Woudn inflicted by others (focus of today’s message)

Self inflicted wound

Self inflicted wound is a wound that is inflicted in our spirit because of our sins and our foolishness
Psalm 38:1–7 (NKJV)
1 O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure!
2 For Your arrows pierce me deeply, And Your hand presses me down.
3 There is no soundness in my flesh Because of Your anger, Nor any health in my bones Because of my sin.
4 For my iniquities have gone over my head; Like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
5 My wounds are foul and festering Because of my foolishness.
6 I am troubled, I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
7 For my loins are full of inflammation, And there is no soundness in my flesh.
David was describing the condition of his spirit using physical language.
He acknoweledge that the wounds of his spirit was self inflicted as a result of his sins and his foolishness.
Sin comes at a cost
We can inflict wound in our spirit by seeing things we are not suppose to see, by indulging in things we are not suppose to indulge in. Sin comes at a cost.
Proverbs 6:27-28 “Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned? Can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be seared?”
Perpetual sinning
Isaiah 1:4–6 NKJV
4 Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the Lord, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward. 5 Why should you be stricken again? You will revolt more and more. The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints. 6 From the sole of the foot even to the head, There is no soundness in it, But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; They have not been closed or bound up, Or soothed with ointment.
They had chronic inflamation,
They were constantly bruising their themsleves whenever they committed sin and lived in rebellion againts God.
Solution
Psalm 41:4 NKJV
4 I said, “Lord, be merciful to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.”
When you come before God incontrition and repentance
Then healing will flow through the blood of Jesus into your life, and God will begin to bind up every wound. To restore you spirit bakc to it health.
Solution is returning to God in repentance and contrition.
Some of us are witnesses of the healing and restoring power of Jesus. The lord has restored our consience, our spirit which was so damagad by sin, corrupted by sin.

Spiritual wounds inflicted by others

Zechariah 13:6 NKJV
6 And one will say to him, ‘What are these wounds between your arms?’ Then he will answer, ‘Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.’
We can be hurt by those who are close to us.
Speak on fragility, example children and older people, sometimes we are fragile in our spirit, especially when you are a newborn in Christ.
We can be wounded in our spirit by those who we call friends (those who are close to us).
Jesus Called Hudas friend when he came to betray him. Jesus was betrayed by the hand of his friend.
Their action can betray us, it can betray our trust, as a result we suffer, we are wounded in our spirit.
We can also be wounded by the words of our friends or even those who are not of our close aquantences.
Job 19:1–3 (NKJV)
1 Then Job answered and said:
2 “How long will you torment my soul, And break me in pieces with words?
3 These ten times you have reproached me; You are not ashamed that you have wronged me.
Those who were his friend who were to sooth his pain, were the ones that inflicted the most damage in his spirit by their words.
We can fell our spirit being crushed to pieces by the words of people. Especially of those whom we deem close to us.

How do you deal with such wounds.

This will come to pass, If Jesus was not except from it, you won’t be except from it either.
What you must not do
you must not allow your spiritual wound to be infected with bitternerss.
Hebrews 12:15 NKJV
15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;
in World War 1 and World War 2, many soldiers died from the infection that they had from their wounds than from the wound itself. Small wounds were lethal in that time, not becuase of the wound in of itself but because it was prone to bacterial infection for which there was no remedy.
Many solders died of these infectious diseases than from enemy action.
If you wound becomes infected with bitterness, then that bitterness is going to cause more damage than spiritual wound that has been inflicted.
If you allow your hurt to turn to bitterness, that bitterness, just like an infection is going to flow to every facet of your spiritual life and like poison kill everything in its path.
Those who choose to walk the road of bitterness, will find themsleves in the ditch of destruction.
Absolam as an example (2 Samuel 13)
Absolam had a sister called Tamor and a brother called Ammon.
Jonadab his cousin, given Ammon an evil advise forced his half siste Tamar.
Absalom was wounded in his spirit because such a betrayel of his brother in forcing his sitster and then casting her aside as if she was nothing.
The Bible says “Absalom Hated Ammon, because he had forced his sister Tamar”
That hatred led to a scheme which eventually brought the death of Ammon
Absalom bitterness went further, he tried to to take his fathers throne and when he did he slept with his father’s concubine.
He died in battle.
Man innocent people who followed this man who was poisoned by bitterness died.
Don’t be bitter, Don’t turn to hatred.
2. What you should do to be healed
James 5:16 NKJV
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
The scripture tells us here to pray for one another that we may be healed.
What does this mean?
Matthew 5:44 “44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,”
When you pray for those who have hurt you, when you pray that God may forgive them, when you pray a blessing over them instead of a curse.
The healing flow of the spirit of God will begin heal and restore your spirit.
Job 42:10 NKJV
10 And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
The lord healed every wound in Job life, restored every lose and damage in his life when he prayed for those who had wounded him and tormented him with their words.
You have to pray for those who have hurt you until you start to see your spirit being healed and being restored.
You can not continue to bear your spiritual wounds.
