Duties of a True Pastor Acts 20:17-32

He challenged them to preach all of the Word of God without holding back. Therefore, the duty of a pastor is to preach
He challenged them to watch over their own lives as well as the lives of the flock. Therefore, the duty of a pastor is to be an example to the church
He challenged them to oversee the flock by relying upon the gifting and power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the duty of a pastor is to be a shepherd to the congregation
He challenged them to feed the church of God by providing discipleship using the Word and teaching them to live like Christ. Therefore, the duty of a pastor is to be a teacher
He challenged them to remember that they were purchased with the blood of Christ. Therefore, the duty of a pastor is to be a theologian
He challenged them to watch out for those who would come into the flock like wolves and teach perversion in an effort to get people to follow them. Therefore, the duty of a pastor is to protect the flock
He challenged them to become emotionally invested and dedicated to pray and warn everyone with tears. Therefore, the duty of a pastor is to be a loving friend
The Reason for Your Elijah 2 Kings 2:10
1 Kings 19:21 Give it all up for your call Surrendering
throwing a cloak around a person meant passing power and authority of that office to another person
What have I done to you? Simply means do as you please.
Elisha slaughtered the oxen and burned the equipment
2 Kings 2:5–6 (ESV) Don’t Be distracted by what other Prophets are saying and doing
5 The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”
6 Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on.

Elisha refuse to put his blessing in jeopardy
He refused to pay attention to anyone
2 Kings 2:13 Being in your proper position to receive.
Elisha tore his clothes in two because he mourned his spiritual father and he no longer was the attendant, the mantle had been passed
He was trained and equipped for the work of the Kingdom of God
His faith wasn’t placed in Elijah but, in the One that delegated authority and power
We can miss out on what God has for us when our focus is on everyone else instead of ‘Your” Elijah
Elijah told Elisha the thing he ask for was hard but if Elisha saw him when he was taken then it would be so but if not then it wouldn’t be so. The reason is because God and only God has that type of authority, if God allowed Elisha to see him being taken up then Elisha was in the plan of God.
Luke 10:7 “7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.”
This was meant as instruction as they spread the Gospel but, its principle is the same. The Lord do not want you to go house to house, He has provided a safe place for you to grow. You simply must have faith in Him and as your Elijah follows Christ follow “Your” Elijah because He is chosen by God Himself especially for you.
Hebrew 13:7 “7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.”
Anointing is divine enablement to hear and discern the truth of God’s Word and to accomplish spiritual acts of service.
Acts 10:38 “38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.”
