Introduction: Standing watch or charge of quarters (CQ). Things happen and the Commander may come to visit for an announced inspection.

Signs of the End Times Mark 13:6-23

1. False christs Mark 13:6
Mark 13:6 NASB95
“Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He!’ and will mislead many.
Mark 13:22 NASB95
for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
a. How can we discern false prophets? Matthew 7:15-20
Matthew 7:15–20 (NASB95)
“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
“You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?
“So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.
“A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.
“Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
“So then, you will know them by their fruits.
2. Wars and Rumors of Wars Mark 13:7
Mark 13:7 (NASB95)
“When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end.
War - a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state
Peace - a state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended
Since 1945 and the invention of the atomic bomb, Man has had the ability to destroy humanity.
3. Natural disasters Mark 13:8
Mark 13:8 NASB95
“For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.
a. Earthquakes - According to United States Geological Society website there were 43 earthquakes somewhere in the world on Sunday February 6th.
b. Famine - according to the UN 20 countries are suffering or almost suffering famine conditions, that’s about 88 million people Two greatest reasons - Poverty and conflict
4. Persecution Mark 13:9 Mark 13:11 Mark 13:13
Mark 13:9 NASB95
“But be on your guard; for they will deliver you to the courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them.
Mark 13:11 NASB95
“When they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit.
Mark 13:13 NASB95
“You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
a. In January 2015, the open doors organization announced that the persecution of Christians around the world has reached historic levels for the modern era, and conditions suggest that it will continue to worsen.
*Over 340 million Christians living in places where they experience high levels of persecution and discrimination
*4,761 Christians killed for their faith
*4,488 churches and other Christian buildings attacked
*4,277 believers detained without trial, arrested, sentenced or imprisoned
5. Global gospel access Mark 13:10
Mark 13:10 NASB95
“The gospel must first be preached to all the nations.
6. Destruction of the family unit Mark 13:12
Mark 13:12 NASB95
“Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.
According to the Health Resources and Services Administration: A family is a group of two or more persons related by birth, marriage, or adoption who live together; all such related persons are considered as members of one family
According to Scripture: Matthew 19:4-6
Matthew 19:4–6 NASB95
And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”

The Coming of he Son of Man Mark 13:24-27

We know the following:
His return is Imminent - ready to take place : happening soon
b. He is coming quickly Revelation 22:12 says:
Revelation 22:12 NASB95
“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.
Revelation 22:20 says:
Revelation 22:20 NASB95
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
c. It will be personal Acts 1:11 says:
Acts 1:11 NASB95
They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”
d. It will be visible Mark 13:26-27
Mark 13:26–27 NASB95
“Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. “And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest end of the earth to the farthest end of heaven.
d. It will be premillennial Revelation 20:1-6
Revelation 20:1–6 NASB95
Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time. Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
3. This is our Blessed Hope, and it should propel us to a holy life of service.
Hope: to expect with confidence, to desire with expectation of obtainment or fulfillment, to want something to happen or be true

What We Can Do: Watch Mark 13:33-37

The word γρηγορεω “gregoreo” appears three times in Mark 13 in verses 34, 35 and 37
It means to stay awake, to be alert by keeping awake. Are you alert? are you awake and watching for His return? Are you ready - have you accepted the invitation to come to the table?
Preach the Gospel - Invite the lost to come to the table. Remember what Matthew 24:14 says:
Matthew 24:14 NASB95
“This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Conclusion:
Do I really believe that Jesus can come today? Am I ready? Do I live my life with the awareness that at any moment, He can come? Am I utilizing the time I have in a day to honor and fulfill His commission, or am I going to regret how I chose to spend my time when I stand face-to-face with Him? Can I say that I am watching with the urgency that the Scriptures exhort me? Finally, at the announcement of Jesus in Revelation 22, can I genuinely say, like John, “Amen; Come Lord Jesus,” or do I have reservation?
