How would you answer the question, “where do you find security?”

Human are wired for protection and security. Psalm 125 addresses this. The Psalm begins with “Those who trust…?

Who do you trust? Where do you find security?

Psalm 125 answers the question. There are two types of people: those who trust and follow God’s heart and those who trust themselves and follow their own heart.

Main Idea: Those who trust in the Lord have unshakable security no matter the circumstances.

Those with a strong faith are secure in the Lord and are characterized by a righteous heart and lifestyle.

What happens when you make a wilful decision to trust in the Lord? Marks of unshakable security

Those who trust in the Lord are secure because the Lord himself surrounds them.

Humans are wired for protection and security.

Think mountains. Jerusalem was located in a perfect spot. The mountains that surround Jerusalem act as a protective fortress.

V.2 tells us that God surrounds his people with his presence.

Psalm 46:1 “1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

The psalm doesn’t say, Those who trust in their feelings.

My faith and sense of security does not come from my feelings, but it’s rooted in the reality of who God is. Ask yourself, who is the object of your faith? The object of your security?

My sense of security is not based on my circumstance (both good and bad) but based on the goodness of God.

To be secure in the Lord does not mean that I will never be experience trials and tribulations.

Those who trust in the Lord are secure and live out their faith.

Those who trust in the Lord are describe as those who are upright in their hearts (v.4)

These people live their lives, make choices and desire things in harmony with was is upright and righteous (Ross)

Keyword: Integrity

They don’t follow the crowd because they know who they are. More importantly they know whose they are.

Contrast those who trust themselves and follow their heart (v. 5)

Keyword: BUT. The word “but” is a sharp contrast.

Those who trust in the Lord take sin seriously and fight against it (v.3)

Conclusion: Invite people to trust in the Lord for salvation. Warn people that the wicked will experience punishment (v.5)

Those who trust in God will experience peace (Shalom)
