As I said earlier it is our hope that we can have an encounter with the Holy Spirit in this series
And tonight is a night to have a personal encounter with the Holy Spirit
And the thing about encounter is that you will never leave the same

If we are going to talk about the gifts we first need to talk about a little word We have been talking about -

I remember my first encounter with the Holy Spirit…
Brought me to my knees, could not stand…
I walked into the young adult ministry at Hillsong Church in Australia
I will never forget
Fire fall down
And I literally hit my knees…
Had never gotten on my knees before before the lord.
But I was filled with the Holy Spirit.
I had an encounter.
That the encounter I had was not just a one time deal… it was my eyes opening to who the Holy Spirit is…
And over the years I learned to cultivate a relationship with the person that was in that encounter…
And as I started cultivating a relationship with him
And as I got to know HIM
I realized that
Encounter with the Holy Spirit always come from relationship and are FOR relationship.
From - Walking into a room filled with people in an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit
FOR - He was opening my eyes and calling me into relationship.

Did not surprise me that when the show is over, when the cameras are gone, when the bills roll in, they fall apart.
THEY WERE SO FOCUSED ON THE SHOW/BENEFITS/EXPERIENCE THAT THEY MISSED THE PERSON
And I think its such a picture of our life with The Holy Spirit…
There is the temptation to chase the ENCOUNTER with him and not the relationship.
So many of us are wanting to have the benefits of a life with The Holy Spirit
But if we are being honest we are lacking the intimacy with Him
Just living off of the encounters from the others in the room.
RELATIONSHIP —> ENCOUNTER
This is one of the most important things for us to grab onto today
Our Relationship with The Holy Spirit does not come from the mountain top encounters we have with him
It comes from the every day relationship with him.
FOOTBALL
YOU CAN WANT TO WIN THE SUPER BOWL, YOU MAY KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL, BUT IF YOU DONT HIT THE FIELD AND PLAY THE GAME YOU WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE THE BENEFITS.
We can see the things of the Holy Spirit happen around us and even to us but if we don’t have a relationship with the Holy Spirit
If we don’t invite the holy spirit into our lives
Asked to be filled
Talk with the Holy Spirit
We are on the sidelines
Getting in on the action looks like having a relationship with The Holy Spirit
The encounter comes out of relationship.
RELATIONSHIP —> ENCOUNTER
Other Side of encounter is relationship
Starts with relationship… leads to encounter… which leads to more relationship…
Gods goal for us and the Holy Spirit is for us to be in close relationship with him…
Not just experience him
Galatians 5:25 ESV
If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
